But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).

Emmanuel—God with us
Yahweh is salvation and He’s come in the flesh to be with us.
So God has come to be with us, taken on flesh to bring us salvation. He is Savior from the line of Abraham and the King from the line of David.

So that takes us to Chap 2

Matthew 2:1-
Matthew 2:1–12 ESV
Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him; and assembling all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. They told him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for so it is written by the prophet: “ ‘And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.’ ” Then Herod summoned the wise men secretly and ascertained from them what time the star had appeared. And he sent them to Bethlehem, saying, “Go and search diligently for the child, and when you have found him, bring me word, that I too may come and worship him.” After listening to the king, they went on their way. And behold, the star that they had seen when it rose went before them until it came to rest over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh. And being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed to their own country by another way.
3 point sermon
Where is this king?
On the lookout for the king? The wisemen were searching the stars, looking for a sign. Waiting and anticipating or at least recognized the signs given to them. What about us? Have we seen the signs God has given to us, proof that the Messiah, the Savior of the world has come to bring us salvation?
Where is this king? The wisemen searched diligently for this king, they traveled, they inquired, they came from far to see this king. God has come to be with us, how far would we go, do we go, to see this king. Would we have traveled high and low to see Him.
Worship the king. Once the wisemen arrived, they did what was only suitable when in the presence of a king, they worshiped Him. Even though He was a baby, they brought gifts and worshiped Him. What gifts are we do we bring to Jesus? How do we worship the king? We may not have gold, frankincense, or myrrh, but what do we have? What could we lay at the feet of Jesus to show we love Him and worship our king?
