Jesus’ Manifesto
Matthew 7:
Matthew 7:24–27 ESV
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”
Starting with our first verse, we see two types of foundation systems; Rock and Sand. What is interesting is how even in modern day architecture, it is recommended that houses be built on rock. (Give the numbers from Arch book).

Wise

The word wise in Hebrew means skilled, clever, and experienced. “whoever hears and does.” Observation and action. But what is Jesus referencing: (List this out in the final outline)

Galatians 5:

Unwise

Matthew 7:26 ESV
And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.

Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.

Outro

James 1:22 ESV
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
What is it hard to always stay consistent with our faith in how we live our lives? Why is it tempting to have some areas where our faith doesn’t guide us as closely as others?
What do you think it takes to make sure you’re not compartmentalizing your faith? In other words, what can you do to be more consistent in all areas of your life?
