No person apart from Christ has been truly righteous
John 14
Anyone that has ever been caught for speeding and gets a fine is more likely to be more careful in the future ecpecially if the loss of your driving privliges is threatened.
Now our obidiance doesnt come about by our love for the policeman.
Even if they are nice and handsome like i used to be when i was in polincing.
Its not because we may have to agree with the speed limit.
So why do we drive slower?
Because we dont want another fine or ticket.
A male driver is pulled over by a cop and the following conversation takes place: Man: What's the problem officer?
Cop: You were going at least 75 in a 55 zone.
Man: No sir, I was going 65. Wife: Oh Harry.
You were going 80. (Man gives his wife a dirty look.)
Cop: I'm also going to give you a ticket for your broken tail light.
Man: Broken tail light?
I didn't know about a broken tail light!
Wife: Oh Harry, you've known about that tail light for weeks.
(Man gives his wife a dirty look.)
Cop: I'm also going to give you a citation for not wearing your seat belt.
Man: Oh, I just took it off when you were walking up to the car.
Wife: Oh Harry, you never wear your seat belt.
Man: Shut your mouth, woman!
Cop: Ma'am, does your husband always talk to you this way?
Wife: No, only when he's been drinking!
What Jesus said was, If you love me the you will keep my commandments.
in other words love produces obedience, or obedience to Christ’s command results in genuine love.
It is possible to obey the Jesus words, as we should the speed limit out of fear and not love him genuinely However its impossible to love Him genuinely and not obey him.
Now turn to lets look how David saw God Loved God honored God
Psalm 119
What David recognised while its a blessing for one to live in perfect union with God its also a impossibility.
Romans
This is David the man after Gods own heart, The man that slayed the Giant for cursing the one true God, The man that God has chose to build to Jesus on.
Ashamed embarrassed at his sin, his transgressions, he acknowledges his short falls.
But as David saw in inequities he was Feeling guilty for not being truly righteous
1. Guilt over sin can be a good thing
1.
Feeling guilty for not being truly righteous Guilt can be a good thing
Reading this we immediately think it refers to the mourning of a loss of a loved one.
While the Spirit may use it to comfort one who is mourning the loss.
Matthew specifically was speaking of when one mourns his sin.
When you're zipping down the freeway at 80 in a 55, and you're looking in your rear vision mirror to see if there's a police car behind you, you're probably experiencing guilt.
That's the Holy Spirit speaking to you.
If you ignore that, then you're ignoring the Holy Spirit.
The difference between guilt and what we call condemnation is that the Holy Spirit makes us feel guilty so that we can repent and do something about our sin.
But condemnation is a feeling that comes from Satan - it has no purpose but to cripple you in your Christian walk.
Condemnation may be just a vague feeling of not measuring up even though you can't seem to work out what it is you've done wrong.
