"Repent, for the day of the Lord is at hand!" I'm sure you've heard that many time in many places. What does it mean to be at hand? There are actually many meanings, but the overarching theme is -relatively soon-. Tomorrow? Maybe. 20 years from now? Do you think 20 years is a long time? Think of something negative that happened to you last year. Now remember yourself 20 years ago. Would the you of 20 years ago think that event could've waited a little longer to happen?
In the context of this sermon, 'at hand' means the moment you leave the realm of the living. In that moment God holds you accountable for your life, OR for His Son's life. For the saved, you are rewarded for what you did for the kingdom of God in the name of his son Jesus, the Christ. For everyone else, there is only one consequence. You will not be measured, analyzed, and you will not get to plead your case. WE ALL are already deserving of eternity without God. Christ simply removes us from that misery. Repent, please!
