Mark 5:1–20 NKJV
1 Then they came to the other side of the sea, to the country of the Gadarenes. 2 And when He had come out of the boat, immediately there met Him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, 3 who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no one could bind him, not even with chains, 4 because he had often been bound with shackles and chains. And the chains had been pulled apart by him, and the shackles broken in pieces; neither could anyone tame him. 5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains and in the tombs, crying out and cutting himself with stones. 6 When he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and worshiped Him. 7 And he cried out with a loud voice and said, “What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I implore You by God that You do not torment me.” 8 For He said to him, “Come out of the man, unclean spirit!” 9 Then He asked him, “What is your name?” And he answered, saying, “My name is Legion; for we are many.” 10 Also he begged Him earnestly that He would not send them out of the country. 11 Now a large herd of swine was feeding there near the mountains. 12 So all the demons begged Him, saying, “Send us to the swine, that we may enter them.” 13 And at once Jesus gave them permission. Then the unclean spirits went out and entered the swine (there were about two thousand); and the herd ran violently down the steep place into the sea, and drowned in the sea. 14 So those who fed the swine fled, and they told it in the city and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that had happened. 15 Then they came to Jesus, and saw the one who had been demon-possessed and had the legion, sitting and clothed and in his right mind. And they were afraid. 16 And those who saw it told them how it happened to him who had been demon-possessed, and about the swine. 17 Then they began to plead with Him to depart from their region. 18 And when He got into the boat, he who had been demon-possessed begged Him that he might be with Him. 19 However, Jesus did not permit him, but said to him, “Go home to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He has had compassion on you.” 20 And he departed and began to proclaim in Decapolis all that Jesus had done for him; and all marveled.

When we encounter the forgiveness of God & are changed, there is a marked difference.

Mark 5:14–15 NKJV
14 So those who fed the swine fled, and they told it in the city and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that had happened. 15 Then they came to Jesus, and saw the one who had been demon-possessed and had the legion, sitting and clothed and in his right mind. And they were afraid.
we are called by God to be Holy. 1 Peter 1:16-17
1 Peter 1:13–16 NKJV
13 Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 14 as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; 15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”

We have to examine ourselves and see whats working in us.

1 Peter 1:14 NKJV
14 as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance;
we all have former lust.

where do these desires come from?

James 1:14–15 NKJV
14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. 15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.

Scripture says we are drawn away by Our Own Desire.

we do the tings we do because we want to.
James 1:15 NKJV
15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.
the thing about this verse is desire that gives birth to sin is sin we pet.
This is the a definition for pet as a noun.

1 a: a pampered and usually spoiled child

the Point of this is our sin is behaviour from the old life that we pamper and spoil.

Lets look at the action or verb of pet sin.

b: to stroke in a gentle or loving manner

to stroke or engage in sin in a gentle and loving manner even thought it will kill us.
James 1:15 NKJV
15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.
Psalm 1:6 NKJV
6 For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the ungodly shall perish.
Proverbs 14:12 NKJV
12 There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.

we are responsible for what we pet.

Romans 8:13–15 NKJV
13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”
we can not keep living by the flesh.
if you have the spirit of God then you’ll never feel as OK, as you once where with your sin.
I have to be your pastor for a moment and tell you that I love the 12 step programs. I believe in the practice of the steps. however I don’t agree with how everyone acts in those rooms.
If your Honest tonight you don’t either.
don’t confuse what is not vital for staying sober for what is vital for staying in your peace.

even if others seem to be getting away with this or that, that does not mean that you will be able to do what others do and feel the same level of peace.

walking in what you know better than to walk in will rob you of Joy.
1 John 1:3–4 NKJV
3 that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. 4 And these things we write to you that your joy may be full.
Sin will cause you to loose your excitement
Psalm 51:12 NKJV
12 Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.
Sin Causes us to feel separated from God.
1 John 1:3 NKJV
3 that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.
1 John 1:5–6 NKJV
5 This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
