Vss 13:1-3;11;18-19
2. We have to be cleansed by the blood of Jesus vs 8

4. Stop trying to control the way God wants to operates (Peter) vss 6-9
5. How we view ourselves and treat others communicates whether we are really true disciples of Christ vss 12-16
Regardless of the title, position, wealth, fame, size or stature, race, religion etc
We are never greater than others, and others are never less, than you
6. If you have received Christ , you have received Christ
If you received the messenger so received the sender of the message
If you understand and believe the message of messenger then we are to do it! vs17
Cultural Context of Washing Feet, there was nothing more menial than foot washing, remember John the Baptist makes the statement that he wasn’t even worthy to unloose the sandal straps of our Lord
We often want to serve those who are in power, and have prestige, but when it comes to those who are not we look on them as worth(less), and refused so serve with humility or do so with indignancy.
· Serving others is the call and the cost of leadership
· Serving others is not based on you liking them
· Serving others is not based on what people do or do not do (Good or Bad)
Judas’s behavior was somewhat unnatural, it signified a person in close relationship violating the intimacy of the relationship (eating a meal with a person at their table was very much relational in the orient)
Psalm 41:9 ESV
Even my close friend in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has lifted his heel against me.
But Yet, this doesn’t stop the Lord from washing Judas’s feet.
It doesn’t stop the Lord from completing his mission and Dying on the Cross
If you received the messenger so received the sender of the message
This act of Jesus washing the Disciples feet is a prelude to the sacrificial work that will be done on the cross
Philippians 2:1–10 ESV
So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
Philippians 1:1–11 ESV
Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are at Philippi, with the overseers and deacons: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. It is right for me to feel this way about you all, because I hold you in my heart, for you are all partakers with me of grace, both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel. For God is my witness, how I yearn for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus. And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.
If we have been washed truly and are disciples of Jesus, then we must follow and do as he has done and demonstrated to us. We don’t get to discriminate how and who we serve as benefactors of the ultimate gift of Grace,
Philippians 1:1-11
We don’t get to not fulfill our calling and mission to take up our cross because those who are close to us may have hurt us.
Romans 5:8 ESV
but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

:8No we simply get our feet washed and then without question wash the feet of others
No we simply get our feet washed and then without question wash the feet of others
No we simply get our feet washed and then without question wash the feet of others!
