Battery?
But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you . . .
Acts 1:8a
There is a story told of a woman who went to a jeweler to have her watch fixed. The jeweler disappeared to the back and soon returned with it running perfectly. Surprised, the woman asked how he could fix it so soon. He told her it only needed a new battery. "Battery? Battery? Nobody said anything about a battery. I've been winding it every morning!"
Oftentimes, we are like this woman, taking things into our own hands without realizing the inner power available to us through the Holy Spirit.
In Acts 19:2, the disciples at Ephesus certainly didn't realize the power that was accessible to them, for when Paul asked if they had received the Holy Spirit upon conversion, they replied, "We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit."
Are you aware of the gift given to you upon believing in Christ Jesus? It is the Holy Spirit, and His purpose is to equip you with God's power. So if you feel like the woman who kept winding her battery powered watch, lay hold of the power that is available to you; and experience a whole new dimension of your faith.
Trying to do the Lord's work in your own strength is the most confusing, exhausting, and tedious of all work. But when you are filled with the Holy Spirit, then the ministry of Jesus just flows out of you.
