Read

John 4:27–38 HCSB
Just then His disciples arrived, and they were amazed that He was talking with a woman. Yet no one said, “What do You want?” or “Why are You talking with her?” Then the woman left her water jar, went into town, and told the men, “Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did! Could this be the Messiah?” They left the town and made their way to Him. In the meantime the disciples kept urging Him, “Rabbi, eat something.” But He said, “I have food to eat that you don’t know about.” The disciples said to one another, “Could someone have brought Him something to eat?” “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to finish His work,” Jesus told them. “Don’t you say, ‘There are still four more months, then comes the harvest’? Listen to what I’m telling you: Open your eyes and look at the fields, for they are ready for harvest. The reaper is already receiving pay and gathering fruit for eternal life, so the sower and reaper can rejoice together. For in this case the saying is true: ‘One sows and another reaps.’ I sent you to reap what you didn’t labor for; others have labored, and you have benefited from their labor.”

Teach

This passage teaches us:

1. Jesus knows EVERYTHING

According to this passage, Jesus was able to tell the Samaritan woman all about her life, affirming the fact that he knows everything about his children.
When I was younger, my dad would always know EVERY SINGLE THING I did wrong. Like 100% of the time.
Whenever I would ask him how he found out, he would always say, “a little bird told me”
In the same way, Jesus knows every little thing about my life, your life, and your great grandma’s life.
Hebrews 4:13 HCSB
No creature is hidden from Him, but all things are naked and exposed to the eyes of Him to whom we must give an account.
No sin can hide from the omniscient God that we serve.
Omniscient - (adj): having complete or unlimited knowledge, awareness, or understanding; perceiving all things.
Luke 8:17 HCSB
For nothing is concealed that won’t be revealed, and nothing hidden that won’t be made known and come to light.
Whatever you are hiding in your life will come to light.

2. Jesus causes EXCITEMENT (v.29-30)

I want you to think back to the time that you were the most excited about being a follower of Jesus.
Maybe was when you first made the choice to make Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior.
Maybe it was when you brought one of your friends to church for the very first time or when they made a choice for Jesus.
Whenever it was, I want you to think about it for a minute. What did you feel? What did you do? Who did you tell first?
When we REALLY meet Jesus for the very first time, we are bursting with joy! With excitement! With zeal! We want to tell everyone that will listen because Jesus is a big deal!
King David found so much joy in the Lord that he danced in
Psalm 150 HCSB
Hallelujah! Praise God in His sanctuary. Praise Him in His mighty heavens. Praise Him for His powerful acts; praise Him for His abundant greatness. Praise Him with trumpet blast; praise Him with harp and lyre. Praise Him with tambourine and dance; praise Him with flute and strings. Praise Him with resounding cymbals; praise Him with clashing cymbals. Let everything that breathes praise the Lord. Hallelujah!
When you get in the presence of Jesus, you can’t help but be excited.

3. Jesus is for EVERYONE(v. 34-38)

I love this image of the harvest because its a total picture of what the harvest looks like, but also the reward that it brings.
Jesus turns the disciples questions about food from the product to the source.
He informs them that it does not matter whether or not you are a sower or a harvester, the main point is you all get to eat!
In other words, it’s not the work of the people that is super important, it’s the product of work that is the focus of everything and that product is Salvation!
Jesus sends us to EVERYONE that is in need of the Gospel!
