The Death of Death

Introduction:

The title of my message is taken from a book called the “death of death in the death of Christ” by a Puritan author because this is exactly what Easter is all about.

I read a sobering book this past year Remember Death while at the hospital in preparing for a few funerals.

As a culture, we try to distance ourselves from the death as far as possible. We call funerals celebrations of life. There is a whole industry to minimize death as we prepare bodies and put make up on a body.

We think we are immortal because of science and technology. The fact that humans live longer also makes us avoid this topic.

I want to share with you the gravity of death so we can really celebrate the joy of Easter. We celebrate easter because we believe Jesus rose again. And in rising again, he put death blow to death.
