Series overview
Review last week: “Show me your friends, I’ll show you your future.”
“Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.”
Title of Message: “FROM FRIEND TO FAMILY”
What this looks like in 56 student life
Why is this important to them?
One of Milestone’s DNA and Jesus had Spiritual Family even though he could’ve done it alone.
Opening story / illustration
Personal Story/Testimony
When I was 16 years old in my sophomore year of high school, my mom and I got into an argument and she kicked me out of the house.
With my clothes in the backseat of my truck, I was on my own.
While many 16 year olds were playing video games and hanging out with friends, a normal day for me consisted of waking up, showering at school, working after school, and then driving to the park were I was slept in my truck.
I’m thankful for football because I at least got to shower twice a day.
I’m thankful for my job because I was able to pay for my cell phone, gas for my truck, and insurance.
I tell you all this because I was young and naive, I didn’t know much about life and many people took advantage of that.
So much that I began to despise people.
I was so angry I began to hate people.
That’s until I met Jesus...
Discernment on Spiritual Family
Bible Preach
What is happening in context?(***PICTURE***)
“And behold, some men were bringing on a bed a man who was paralyzed, and they were seeking to bring him in and lay him before Jesus.
But finding no way to bring him in, because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and let him down with his bed through tiles into the midst before Jesus.
And when he saw their faith, he said, “man, your sins are forgiven.”
What can we learn from the friends and Jesus in this story when it comes to Spiritual Family?
2 Points
What will Spiritual Family do?
1. Spiritual Family will help you reach your PURPOSE, not your POTENTIAL.
Verse 18.
And behold, some men were bringing on a bed a man who was paralyzed, and they were seeking to bring him in and lay him before Jesus.
Anyone can reach their potential on their own through hard work, looks, intelligence, or networking.
Jesus was a great teacher but didn’t teach at a school, Jesus was a carpenter but didn’t have his own shop, Jesus was able to heal diseases but didn’t work at a hospital, Jesus was able to do all of these things and more but that wasn’t what he was created and CALLED to do.
Spiritual Family knows what you can do but helps you do what you’re called to do.
How do we know we can trust Spiritual Family?
2. Spiritual Family is led by FAITH, not by FEELINGS.
Faith: believing in what you cannot see.
Verse 19.
But finding no way to bring him in, because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and let him down with his bed through tiles into the midst before Jesus.
Imagine what the friends were feeling in this verse.
Through the Greek translation, we understand the paralyzed man was scared.
(Doubt, Frustrated, Tired)
If they acted on their emotions, they probably would’ve gave up, turned around, and went home.
But they didn’t act on how they felt, they acted on faith.
Why is that so important?
Verse 20.
And when he saw their faith, he said, “man, your sins are forgiven.”
Jesus was impressed by their FAITH.
Not their strength, not their patience and perseverance, not their looks, “Jesus saw their faith.”

Close
So how did the story end?
With everyone watching what would happen, Jesus ended up healing the paralyzed man and he began to walk.
What was the purpose of the paralyzed man?
Verse 26.
THE WHY.
“And amazement seized them all, and they glorified God and were filled with awe, saying, “we have seen extraordinary things today.”
People will be drawn to God because of the miracles performed through YOU.
LET’S PRAY.
