Matthew 21:1–11 NASB95
1 When they had approached Jerusalem and had come to Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, 2 saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied there and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to Me. 3 “If anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of them,’ and immediately he will send them.” 4 This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: 5 Say to the daughter of Zion, Behold your King is coming to you, Gentle, and mounted on a donkey, Even on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.’ ” 6 The disciples went and did just as Jesus had instructed them, 7 and brought the donkey and the colt, and laid their coats on them; and He sat on the coats. 8 Most of the crowd spread their coats in the road, and others were cutting branches from the trees and spreading them in the road. 9 The crowds going ahead of Him, and those who followed, were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David; Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest!” 10 When He had entered Jerusalem, all the city was stirred, saying, “Who is this?” 11 And the crowds were saying, “This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth in Galilee.”

saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied there and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to Me.
“If anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of them,’ and immediately he will send them.”
This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet:
“SAY TO THE DAUGHTER OF ZION,
`BEHOLD YOUR KING IS COMING TO YOU,
GENTLE, AND MOUNTED ON A DONKEY,
EVEN ON A COLT, THE FOAL OF A BEAST OF BURDEN.’ ”
The disciples went and did just as Jesus had instructed them,
and brought the donkey and the colt, and laid their coats on them; and He sat on the coats.
Most of the crowd spread their coats in the road, and others were cutting branches from the trees and spreading them in the road.
The crowds going ahead of Him, and those who followed, were shouting,
“Hosanna to the Son of David;
BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD;
Hosanna in the highest!”
When He had entered Jerusalem, all the city was stirred, saying, “Who is this?”
And the crowds were saying, “This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth in Galilee.”
Who is this?
The question stirred throughout all those who observed.
How we answer this question is the most revealing thing about a man.
Tozer says, “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.”
Bishop Handley C. G. Moule Biship of England in the late 1800’s and believer in the divine authority of the Holy Scriptures says this quote.
It is interesting C.S. Lewis idea in comparison to Tozers. He says,
“By God Himself, it is not! How God thinks of us is not only more important, but infinitely more important. Indeed, how we think of Him is of no importance except in so far as it is related to how He thinks of us.” C.S. Lewis
Bishop Handley C. G. Moule Biship of England in the late 1800’s and believer in the divine authority of the Holy Scriptures says this quote.
HMMMMM
I say it all the time.
If you want to know the Father, you need to know Jesus, because He is the image of the invisible God.
Bishop Handley C. G. Moule Biship of England in the late 1800’s and believer in the divine authority of the Holy Scriptures says this quote.
then how do you know Jesus
In the beginning was the Word. The Word was with God, The Word was God.
The Greek for word is Logos, which is though.
So if you want to know what God thinks about you, you need to READ YOUR BIBLE!
You can’t separate God from His thoughts. So If you want to know Jesus, you need to read your bible, because He is the word that became flesh.
Bishop Handley C. G. Moule Biship of England in the late 1800’s and believer in the divine authority of the Holy Scriptures says this quote.
So if you want to know what God thinks about you, you need to READ YOUR BIBLE!

Bishop Handley C. G. Moule Bishop of England in the late 1800’s and believer in the divine authority of the Holy Scriptures says this quote.
“As on this day we keep the special memory of our Redeemer’s entry into the city, so grant, O Lord that now and ever He may triumph in our hearts. Let the King of grace and glory enter in, and let us lay ourselves and all we are in full and joyful homage before him; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.” Bishop Handley C. G. Moule
As I was composing this message, I became overwhelmed with emotion as I read the presentation of the entry of our lord in to Jerusalem.
As I was composing this message, I became overwhelmed with emotion as I read the presentation of the entry of our lord in to Jerusalem.
And how it point to a day that will come when jesus return to reign on a throne in Jerusalem.
What we just read in Matthew is recorded in all four of the gospels.
I don’t know if you know this but as we read the gospel we must keep in mind who the writer were writing to and the purpose of their writing.
So as each writer is presenting their story of Jesus to a particular people with a purpose.
Mark’s presentation of the Gospel is written to the Romans. Mark got his Gospel or his writing from his spiritual Father Peter.
Mark concentrates on Jesus as the suffering Servant who bore the weight of all sin.
Mark's Gospel can be summed up with the statement
Mark 10:45 NASB95
45 “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
So, when he presents this story to the Romans he does not go into much detail.
So, when he presents this story to the Romans he does not go into much detail.
He tells of Jesus words and his actions.
And how the people went in front and behind him shouting
“Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.” “Blessed is the coming of the kingdom of our father David.
Hosanna in the highest!
Our God is a Servant and his Service is to Save us.
So they cried hosanna which means Save Now.
Luke’s Presentation is to the Gentiles. And his purpose is to show Jesus as a Passionate savior for all mankind.
Luke wrote this book to a man Theophilus (theh-of'-il-os) This man name meant friend of God or one who loves God.
In Luke we see Jesus’s Prayer life and his Passion for his people.
Which Luke show us in his recount of this event when he writes in
Luke 19:39–44 NASB95
39 Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Him, “Teacher, rebuke Your disciples.” 40 But Jesus answered, “I tell you, if these become silent, the stones will cry out!” 41 When He approached Jerusalem, He saw the city and wept over it, 42 saying, “If you had known in this day, even you, the things which make for peace! But now they have been hidden from your eyes. 43 “For the days will come upon you when your enemies will throw up a barricade against you, and surround you and hem you in on every side, 44 and they will level you to the ground and your children within you, and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.”
saying.
He approached Jerusalem, He saw the city and wept over it,
:39Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Him, “Teacher, rebuke Your disciples.”
But Jesus answered, “I tell you, if these become silent, the stones will cry out!”
When He approached Jerusalem, He saw the city and wept over it,
Do you know we have a Savior who is passionate for and about us?
Many call Palm Sunday Passion Sunday.
Because our savoir who came to serve is about to show his people how much passion and how much love he has for us.
John’s Gospel who was written to the believers was the last of the Gospel written to tie up all the lose end.
John’s Gospel was written to prove that yes Jesus was a servant, yes he was a savior, but he is also the Son of God.
Jesus was sent by the Father to give eternal life to believers.
John 3:16 NASB95
16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
When John tells us about Jesus entering Jerusalem. He tells us that it was a day after Mary anointed his feet with her hair.
And he says in chapter 12 verse 13 that they took palm branch which was a symbol of triumph and of victory, in Jewish tradition.
John 12:13 NASB95
13 took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet Him, and began to shout, “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel.”
They laid the branches at his feet. The same place that Mary laid her tear and the fragrance.
They laid the branches at his feet. The same place that Mary laid her tear and the fragrance.
And verse 17 says the people that saw him raise Lazarus from the dead started to testify about him and the miracles that he had performed.
John 12:17 NASB95
17 So the people, who were with Him when He called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead, continued to testify about Him.
Who is this?
Surely He is the Son of God.
But I have to say my favorite presentation of this event is found in Matthew.
Matthew was written to the Jews to show that Jesus was the promised Messiah and King.
Matthew’s job was to take the words of the Prophets and show that is was Jesus that the prophet Prophesied about.
He tells the story Jesus is approaching Jerusalem. Jerusalem meaning Abode of Peace.
Jerusalem meaning Abode of Peace.
Place of peace.
Do you know that they what he want in you?
He want you life to be a place of peace.
And the king wants to come in and reign.
But as for Me, I have installed My King Upon Zion, My holy mountain.
Psalm 2:6 NASB95
6 “But as for Me, I have installed My King Upon Zion, My holy mountain.”
Where is Zion? Jerusalem.
Psalm 48:2 NASB95
2 Beautiful in elevation, the joy of the whole earth, Is Mount Zion in the far north, The city of the great King.
Jerusalem.
Finally the King of Zion Judah lion was coming into the city to reign.
say that Zion or Jerusalem was the place of great kings.
Finally the King of Zion Judah lion was coming into the city to reign.
So he sent his Disciple to get a donkey that has not been used before and bring it to him and if anyone ask any question tell them that the kings needs it.
Then Matthew tells us why he did this.
Matthew 21:4 NASB95
4 This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet:
Matthew 21:5 NASB95
5 Say to the daughter of Zion, Behold your King is coming to you, Gentle, and mounted on a donkey, Even on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.’ ”
matt 21:5
Who is this? Im glad you ask.
Verse 4 of our text.
This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet.
Then verse 5 gives us that prophecy
SAY TO THE DAUGHTER OF ZION,
Daughter of Zion, your king is coming.
`BEHOLD YOUR KING IS COMING TO YOU,
GENTLE, AND MOUNTED ON A DONKEY,
EVEN ON A COLT, THE FOAL OF A BEAST OF BURDEN.’ ”
Daughter of Zion your king is coming.
Church your king is coming
Grace your king is coming.
And he is a gentile men.
Riding on a donkey.
Did you know they we are to carry his presents?
Ask Urriah.
The disciple did what his said.
And as he came into the city the people took off their coats, they cut palm branches and laid it at his feet.
Isaiah 40:3 KJV 1900
3 The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, Make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
isaiah 40
Let me say this
Before the King can enter we must lay all we have at his feet.
Who is this...
Matthew 21:9 NASB95
9 The crowds going ahead of Him, and those who followed, were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David; Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest!”
Hosanna, The term is simply a transliteration of the Heb imperative hôšaʿ, “save,” augmented by the enclitic precative particle - (n)nā, which adds a note of urgency, “save, now/please.”
says this
Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord

Matthew Henry says, His humiliation; he is the Stone which the builders refused: they would go on in their building without him. This proved the ruin of those who thus made light of him. Rejecters of Christ are rejected of God. 2. His exaltation; he is the chief Cornerstone in the foundation. He is the chief Top-stone, in whom the building is completed, who must, in all things, have the pre-eminence. Christ's name is Wonderful; and the redemption he wrought out is the most amazing of all God's wondrous works. We will rejoice and be glad in the Lord's day; not only that such a day is appointed, but in the occasion of it, Christ's becoming the Head.”
Who is this?
Who is this?
Psalm 24:7–10 NASB95
7 Lift up your heads, O gates, And be lifted up, O ancient doors, That the King of glory may come in! 8 Who is the King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, The Lord mighty in battle. 9 Lift up your heads, O gates, And lift them up, O ancient doors, That the King of glory may come in! 10 Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, He is the King of glory. Selah.
Matthew ends his presentation of this story this way
