Triumphal Entry
Last week we saw the day before Jesus making His way into Jerusalem, He stopped and enjoyed some time with friends.
Today we look at the fulfilment of prophecy of Zechariah.
Step back and picture as we walk with Jesus into Jerusalem.
Can you imagine the excitement of the disciples?!
Today we look at the fulfilment of prophecy of Zechariah.
Jesus is the Messiah, He is making His entrance into Jerusalem and He will take control as King and will overthrow Rome.
They have waited so long, lets do this.
Let’s get a horse, ride in with authority and take action.
But they got a shock.
A donkey.
A donkey?
Not only a donkey, but there was strict instructions on getting one.
Luke
Luke 19:
Why two donkeys?
Luke tells us in
Luke 19:30
Jesus was to take a colt that had not yet been rode.
Something pure!!
Jesus needed pure, because He was pure.
Anything is would have been unclean.
John
Yet being a young colt, it needed its mother to keep him calm when the crowd gets wild.
As they brought the colt to Jesus, something happened.
Matthew 21:7
As a King, Jesus came into His city, but not like a normal king.
Earthly kings rode with their steeds draped really flashy; Jesus sat on the garments of his admirers.
Earthly kings were praised by soldiers and noblemen; Jesus was acclaimed by children and peasants.
Earthly kings were recieved by show of swords and spears; Jesus was acclaimed with palm branches and old clothes.
Earthly kings rode on war horses; Jesus rode on a donkey.
Yet the people yelled praise after praise.
Hosanna to the Son of David!
Hosanna in the highest!!
Hosanna meant “save, rescue, savior.
The people, just as the disciples was waiting for Jesus to free them.
Which He did!
Just not like they thought He would.
But like the world today, not everyone understands who this Jesus is.
Matthew 21:
Many still thought Jesus to be a prophet, a good person, one who would introduce the Messiah.
Who do you say Jesus is?
A prophet?
A good person?
One who healed and helped people?
Or is Jesus as states
I
“Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
- Lord of lords, King of kings.
- Resurrection and the Life.
- My Redeemer
Today can you say that Jesus is your Hosanna- Savior, Rescuer.
In five days, Jesus will take the cross and pay the sins of the world with His life.
But oh next Sunday, He will rise from death and give life.
If you do not know this great Savior, please do not leave today without allowing us to share with you about the One that gives eternal life.
