Introduction

Illustration: An aircraft pilot was following a major highway and observing the traffic below. One particular car caught his attention. The driver was attempting to pass a large truck, but because of oncoming traffic and no-passing zones, he was not able to pass safely. Over an over again, just a she would pull out, an oncoming vehicle would force him to retreat. The pilot, being able to see several miles down the highway, thought to himself, “If I could only talk to the driver, I could tell when and where it safe to pass.”
1.  There is the Celebration of the crowd
2.  There is misunderstanding of the moment by the disciples
3.  There is internally expressed envy among the Pharisees
God, of course, is the ultimate Pilot and his perfect knowledge is exactly what we need to guide our life. Prayer is how we talk to God, and as we learn to listen to his responses, we will find the guidance we seek.

Transition To The Body

During the triumph of Palm Sunday:
1.  There is the Celebration of the crowd
2.  There is misunderstanding of the moment by the disciples
3.  There is internally expressed envy among the Pharisees
4.  There are Greeks worshiping and seeking to see Jesus
But there is Jesus with his soul troubled
So Jesus does what He always does in situations like these.
Jesus starts praying
Mark 1:35 ESV
And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.
Mark 1:
Luke 6:12–13 ESV
In these days he went out to the mountain to pray, and all night he continued in prayer to God. And when day came, he called his disciples and chose from them twelve, whom he named apostles:
Matthew 26:36 ESV
Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, “Sit here, while I go over there and pray.”
Matthew 26:38 ESV
Then he said to them, “My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and watch with me.”
Matthew 26:36

Body- Jesus Christ’s Heavenly Conversation

John 12:27 ESV
“Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? But for this purpose I have come to this hour.
soul = psyche
troubled=emotional distress

Petition To The Heavenly Father

Resolution To Fulfill Heaven Sent Purpose

hour = right, fixed, favorable time
Romans 5:1–5 ESV
Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
Romans 5:2–5 ESV
Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

Submission To Glorify The Heavenly Father

John 12:28 ESV
Father, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven: “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.”
the humble suffering servant
Psalm 19:1 ESV
The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
Psalm 19:14 ESV
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.

Unvarying Response Of The Glorious Father

Hebrews 13:8 ESV
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

A WORD spoken to Jesus

A WORD spoken for the people (their sake)

John 12:30 ESV
Jesus answered, “This voice has come for your sake, not mine.
John 1

Transition To The Close

Jesus closes with the gospel
John 12:31–34 ESV
Now is the judgment of this world; now will the ruler of this world be cast out. And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.” He said this to show by what kind of death he was going to die. So the crowd answered him, “We have heard from the Law that the Christ remains forever. How can you say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?”

Closing Illustration:
In a conversation with Professor S. F. B., the inventor of the telegraph, Rev. George W. Hervey asked this question:
Professor Morse, when you were making your experiments yonder in your room int he university, did you ever come to a stand, not knowing what to do next?”
“Oh, yes, more than once.”
And at such times what did you do next?”
“I may answer you in confidence, sir,” said the professor, “but is is a matter of which the public knows nothing. I prayed for more light.”
“And the light generally came?”
“Yes, and may I tell you that when flattering honors come to me from America and Europe on account of the invention which bears my name, I never felt I deserved them. I had mad a valuable application of electricity, not because I was superior to other men, but solely because God, who meant it for mankind, must reveal it to someone, and was pleased to reveal it to me.”
In view of these facts, it is not surprising that the inventor’s first message was “What hath God wrought!”
wrought = elaborately embellished, worked into shape or form
So then Jesus issues a call to discipleship-  walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you...
hen Jesus issues a call to discipleship-  walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you...
John 12:35
John 12:35–36 ESV
So Jesus said to them, “The light is among you for a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you. The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going. While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.” When Jesus had said these things, he departed and hid himself from them.
Then Jesus issues a call to discipleship-  walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you...
While you have the light,
Believe in the light
That you may become sons of light
Because:
John 1:1–5 ESV
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
John 1:9–14 ESV
The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Aren’t you glad for grace & truth?
Aren’t glad that grace comes before truth in that verse?
