You will not Always
have Me.
John 12 : 1-11
Six days before the Passover,
Jesus came to Bethany, where
Lazarus lived, whom Jesus had
raised from the dead. Here a
dinner was given in Jesus’ honor.
Martha served, while Lazarus was
among those reclining at the table
with him.
John 12:1-2
Then Mary took about a pint of
pure nard, an expensive perfume;
she poured it on Jesus’ feet and
wiped his feet with her hair. And
the house was filled with the
fragrance of the perfume.
John 12:3
But one of his disciples, Judas
Iscariot, who was later to betray
him, objected, “Why wasn’t this
perfume sold and the money
given to the poor? It was worth a
year’s wages.”
John 12:4-5
He did not say this because he
cared about the poor but
because he was a thief; as
keeper of the money bag, he
used to help himself to what was
put into it.
John 12:6
“Leave her alone,” Jesus replied.
“It was intended that she should
save this perfume for the day of
my burial.
You will always have the poor
among you, but you will not
always have me.”
John 12:7-8
Meanwhile a large crowd of Jews
found out that Jesus was there
and came, not only because of
him but also to see Lazarus,
whom he had raised from the
dead.
So the chief priests made plans to
kill Lazarus as well, for on account
of him many of the Jews were
going over to Jesus and believing
in him.
John 12:9-11
Hey, Lazarus! Come out of
there!
John 11:42
Now Jesus loved Martha
and her sister (Mary) and
Lazarus.
John 11:5
The Extravagant Nature of Worship
And the fact that Jesus is about to
die.

עֲבוֹדָה
Lazarus is loved so much by Jesus
that he raises him from the dead.
Mary, in Luke 10:38-42, is described
by Jesus as the ideal disciple.
Martha, in John 11:27, is shown to be
one of the few who ever understand
who Jesus is
“Leave her alone,” Jesus replied. “It
was intended that she should save
this perfume for the day of my
burial. You will always have the poor
among you, but you will not always
have me.”
John 11:7-8
“Then the King will say to those on
his right, ‘Come, you who are
blessed by my Father; take your
inheritance, the kingdom prepared
for you since the creation of the
world.
Matthew 25:34
For I was hungry and you gave me
something to eat, I was thirsty and
you gave me something to drink, I
was a stranger and you invited me
in, I needed clothes and you clothed
me, I was sick and you looked after
me, I was in prison and you came to
visit me.’
Matthew 25:35-36
“Then the righteous will answer him,
‘Lord, when did we see you hungry
and feed you, or thirsty and give you
something to drink?
When did we see you a stranger and
invite you in, or needing clothes and
clothe you? When did we see you
sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
Matthew 25:37-39
“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell
you, whatever you did for one of
the least of these brothers and
sisters of mine, you did for me.’
Matthew 25:40
