                                   What it means to love the Lord             3/2/08  p.m.

 

 Dt 6:4-9    4  “Hear, O Israel: 2The Lord our God, the Lord is one! 5  You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. 6 “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. 8  You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9  You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

V5    You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart,  with all your soul, and with all your strength.

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart - intellect

You shall love the Lord your God with all your soul - being

You shall love the Lord your God with all your strength – body

 

V6   And  these words which I command you today shall be in your heart

            We are to know the word of God

V7a  You shall teach them diligently to your children,

            Teach others

V7b  and shall talk of them when you sit in your house,

            Discuss the things of God

V7c  when you walk by the way

            Talk of the things of God in public

V7d   when you lie down, and when you rise up

            Morning and evening prayers and petitions

V8a   You shall bind them as a sign on your hand,

            A reminder to exhibit godliness in your actions

V8b    and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.

            A reminder to think Christ like

V9  You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

            A reminder to keep the abominable thing out & godliness in our homes

To love the Lord; these words shall be in your heart (you shall know the word of God) , you shall teach them(teach others), you shall talk of them(a witness to the commandments  of God), you shall bind them on your person(they shall govern  your personal self), you shall write them on your house (they shall govern your house)

 

John14:1515 “If you love Me, 4keep (you will keep) My commandments.



 1 Jn 5:3   For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And  His commandments are not burdensome.
