The timing of the vision
740 BC
But when he was strong his heart was lifted up, to his destruction, for he transgressed against the Lord his God by entering the temple of the Lord to burn incense on the altar of incense.
King Uzziah was a leper until the day of his death. He dwelt in an isolated house, because he was a leper; for he was cut off from the house of the Lord. Then Jotham his son was over the king’s house, judging the people of the land.
Now the rest of the acts of Uzziah, from first to last, the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz wrote. So Uzziah rested with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the field of burial which belonged to the kings, for they said, “He is a leper.” Then Jotham his son reigned in his place.
2 Chronicles 26:21-
The throne room of God
Isaiah saw the majesty of God though God is invisible
Isaiah saw the majesty of God though God is invisible
No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.
No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.

The Prophecy of Isaiah Isaiah’s Call
When people fear before God (e.g. Jdg. 6:22; 13:22) it ‘is not the consciousness of … humanity in the presence of divine power, but the consciousness of … sin in the presence of moral purity’.
The praise shook heaven and Isaiah as well
Shook the posts and filled the house with smoke
When Solomon had finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the Lord filled the temple. And the priests could not enter the house of the Lord, because the glory of the Lord had filled the Lord’s house. When all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the Lord on the temple, they bowed their faces to the ground on the pavement, and worshiped and praised the Lord, saying:
“For He is good,
For His mercy endures forever.”
The praise and vision of God’s holiness caused Isaiah to see his own sinfulness
He acknowledged his own condition
He acknowledge the condition of his people
He stood exposed before an all seeing holy God

The Prophecy of Isaiah Isaiah’s Call
The live coal which was brought to Isaiah was fire from the altar. The perpetual fire (Lv. 6:12–13) on the altar went beyond symbolizing divine wrath, for the altar was the place where the holy God accepted and was satisfied by blood sacrifice (Lv. 17:11). It holds together the ideas of the atonement, propitiation and satisfaction required by God and of the forgiveness, cleansing and reconciliation needed by his people. All this is achieved through substitutionary sacrifice and brought to Isaiah, encapsulated in the single symbol of the live coal.
