We are starting to wrap up our what’s the point series.
But we still have one key topic to tackle.
Tonight, we look at what’s the point of church.
A few worldly perspectives.
to keep up appearances
to learn more about God
for a social gathering
etc...
While a few of these perspectives are partially accurate, they are not the sole point of church.
A few leading thoughts before we can answer the question.
What exactly is the church?
How does this fit into the context of the point of life?
To love God, and love people, by fulfilling the great commission.
What exactly is the church?
What exactly is the church?
The body & bride of Christ
22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
26 that he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
27 that he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
Ephesians
portrays the church as both body and bride.
Ephesians 5:22-
for more on the church as bride read Revelation 19.

25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
26 that he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
27 that he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
30 for we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
Ephesians 5:22-
Jesus is the head over the body.
The body is the church members.
The body follows the head, thats how it works.
Jesus gave His life for us, thus we willingly submit to His lead.
The church is Jesus’ bride. He leads and guides the body.
So the church follows Jesus’ lead
We are His family gathered, looking for direction from His word.
see v.26 for more on being led by his word.
Jesus is the head, and He also tells us that He is the word.
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Jesus leads His church through the Word of God.
The Bible itself is referred to as the mind of Christ.
16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.
15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.
We are Jesus’ family and friends, thus He (the head of the church) will lead us (the body of Christ) with His mind (the Word of God).
Condensed Conclusion:
The church is Jesus’ body & bride. We are lead by the head, Jesus Christ through His mind, the word of God.
Simply put:
As the body of Christ we are the hands and feet of Jesus presently on the earth.
As the body of Christ we are the hands and feet of Jesus presently on the earth.
We know that the Bible clearly lays out the point to life.
To love God and love people, through accomplishing the great commission.
&
This does not change in the context of the church. It is actually amplified.
