Well, who defines who you are? “when the character of a man is not clear, look at his friends”.
We really are known by the company we keep.
The people we are around help define who we are.
But ultimately we are defined by our relationship with our Creator.
Serving together to create a distraction free environment where people can encounter God.
Older translations have ‘set your heart’.
Newer ones have ‘seek’.
Both meant to convey our desires.
Much more than a line of thought, ‘set your mind’ refers to all our values and loves.

They either merge and match and benefit one another or cause conflict.
We see this clearly in the life of Joseph:
Sold to the Midianites (or Ishmaelites) by his brothers
Midian was Abraham’s son by Keturah.
Ishmael was Abraham’s son by Hagar.
So each was Isaac’s half brother.
Isaac was Joseph’s grandfather.
The brothers sold Joseph to his cousins.
It was a bad deal all the way around.
Wound up as a house servant to Potiphar, career army man in Egypt.
This is a place we can see the struggle between the desires and values of the individual and the organization.

We see that in Joseph.

Inherently selfish.
Which means we need extraordinary grace to see others with compassion.
