This past week my cousin died
This past week my cousin died
He was one year older than I..wonderful man and friend...
We got more acquainted in the last ten years or so…he’d come to the United States every October to visit his sons and get annual checkups at our good doctors at the large complex
in Houston....Two years ago a horrible Hurricane went right through the Caribbean islands
where he lived…Two hundred miles an hour winds pummeled his house. Everyhome there is prepared for such catastrophe…A shutter came loose so he went outside to fix it…Immediately, he said, the wind slammed him against the house..somehow he got back inside..
but it scared him to no end…I talked to him after that..and he was totally consumed with the memory of that storm…and talked about it non-stop…You couldn’t help feeling sorry for him.
He was by himself when that hurricane hit…his wife was in the U.S. on a business trip...
But, that storm left a deep scar in his mind…It scared him so much that he talked about it over and over...
Steve was a Catholic…we had some good discussions about the Catholic church…I even went to Mass with him one time several years ago…He was retired but had been a professor at Purdue and at Notre Dame in South Bend …he definitely missed the flat land of Indiana..
But he especially missed the stores and fast food places…he said: “I’d almost kill to be able to eat a Burger King hamburger!!!
His son told me that Steve accepted Jesus when his Dad was about 46 years old…He really got into the Catholic religion…He continued to teach the native people on the small island where he lived....I was touched by what his son said about his Dad: “We had prayed and prayed that Dad would become excited about God and put Him in his life…and boy did he ever!” He was very devoted to God and our Lord Jesus...
