INTRODUCTION
INTRODUCTION
As we have seen Paul has spoken of freedom many times in this letter to the galasions. the main point of galations is the freedom we have in Christ. however, he has not until no defined what freedom is not a license to sin.
One reason Paul adds this section to this letter is to show what he means by faith itself throuhg love.
Gal 5:13
13 For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. 14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 15 But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another.
I. Gospel Liberty (v. 13)
13 For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
Gospel liberty consists of three things
free from the yoke of the mosaic law
free from sin
free from slavish fear.
freedom however is not the same as a license to do as you please a believer still has sin nature but no longer is defined by it.
as Paul says “do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
Just because we are no longer defined by our sin does not mean we can sin at will, but rather that we should love and serve each other
II. THink of others.

gal 5:13-14
through his entire letter Paul as argued against the law and in defence of the gospel which is one of pure grace. however, in verse 14 he returnes to the law and appears to speek of it in a faverable manner. he inserts that christian love and service to others is the essence of the law.
Paul says the whole law is fulfilled by one thing “ you shall love your neighbor as yorself
this statement is not ment to indicate that the law is still in place by any means it is ment as a reference to Christ’s statement love your neighbor as yourself which is the first comandment
34 But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together.
35 And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him.
36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?”
37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.
This is absolutly applicable today the
This does not matter
Matt
a. use your freedom to sin
36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?”
37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.
II.
37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”
38 This is the great and first commandment.
Matt 22:
II. do.
The comandment to love God and love others does not change with the end of the law. but it existed in the OT it existed in the early church and it exists today
39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
Have unity
15 But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another.
There was most certenly strife within the church and it was this strife that paul was condeming
