Jesus Is Risen
All this week we have taken a journey and walked with Jesus to the cross.
I hope that you have watched the videos that was posted on Sherman Baptist Facebook.
We watched Jesus triumphally enter Jerusalem. Not with a horse coming in power but on a donkey coming with humility and love.
Jesus continues to love on and minister to the people. Taking every opportunity to talk about eternal life.
He celebrates the Passover with His disciples.
He walks and prays in the garden to prepare Himself for what is to come the following day.
Leading to the day. He was arrested, faced a mockery trial, condemned by Pilate, beaten and spit upon, stripped of His clothes, and finally nailed to a cross to suffer an unspeakable death.
As He took His last breath, The words “Forgive them Father”.
He was taken off the cross and placed in a borrowed tomb to forever stay.
Friday came, but Sunday is coming.
1 When the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. 2 And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb. 3 And they were saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?” 4 And looking up, they saw that the stone had been rolled back—it was very large. 5 And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe, and they were alarmed. 6 And he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here. See the place where they laid him. 7 But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.” 8 And they went out and fled from the tomb, for trembling and astonishment had seized them, and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.
Each of the 4 gospels shows a different scene in what took place at the tomb. If we would combine them we could see a much bigger picture of the event before us.
Today we look at Mark’s point of view and what 3 women went through that morning at the tomb, and what we can learn.

The Jewish held strictly to the Sabbath which began at sundown on Friday and went through Saturday at sundown.

They were not able to go Saturday evening because of no light. So we see at first light Sunday they make their way to the tomb.
After a few days in the tomb, you could only imagine what the body would smell like. The spices for the Jews was to control the smell because they did not embalm.
3 And they were saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?” 4 And looking up, they saw that the stone had been rolled back—it was very large.

What do we find taking place on the way to the tomb? Women talking!! This always happens when you get ladies together. lol
What we find is them trying to figure out how they are going to move the stone so they can do what needs to be done.
But something is off. As they get there the stone has been moved.
5 And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe, and they were alarmed. 6 And he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here. See the place where they laid him.
Mark 16:
As they made their way inside they see someone, but it is not Jesus. We come to understand that this was an angel, proclaiming what had taken place.
This angel shares with them and us three truths.
Jesus was crucified
33 And when they came to the place that is called The Skull, there they crucified him, and the criminals, one on his right and one on his left.
2 For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.
2 “You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man will be delivered up to be crucified.”
The ladies knew that they were in the right place, seeking the right person.
Why is this Jesus who was crucified so important?
Because many in this world do not understand who He is.
5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
Philippians
6 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— 8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
A death He didn’t deserve, He took it for us who He loves
But the angel doesn’t stop here.
2. He has risen
6 And he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here. See the place where they laid him.
Mark 16:6b
This is the greatest news they and us could ever hear.
Why?
Because this is the foundation of our faith.
12 Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. 14 And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain. 15 We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified about God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised. 17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. 18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied.
1 Corinthians 15:12-1
Church, if Christ did not rise, then everything about us is lost.
What we believe, the faith we hold to, what takes place after we die.
The most important is that if Christ did not rise, then we are lost in our sin with NO hope.
But He did RISE!!
He was seen by the women, the apostles, and over 500 other people in the 40 days after His resurrection.
Praise the Lord that He is Risen!!
The hope that we have!!
Finally, the angel shares the third truth
3. Go and Tell
7 But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.”
Church, we have been called to share this wonderful truth, that all may know and receive.
16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
But did you notice what the ladies done?
8 And they went out and fled from the tomb, for trembling and astonishment had seized them, and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.
They trembled and said nothing to anyone.
So many times we are in that same boat.
We have the best news and yet we are scared to share it at times.
But this is not who we are to be
7 for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
2 Timothy
Church, we must allow the Spirit to guide us to proclaim the best news this world will ever here.
Christ came, Christ died, But praise Him because He ROSE!
