The Resurrection

Christ is not the last name of Jesus
He was born of a Virgin--- WHY
He fulfilled his purpose to teach and perform miracles with the compassion of God, through the Power of God To validate His teach was in fact from God.
He would ultimately would fulfill his purpose for PROPITIATION on the Cross, drinking the cup of God’s wrath. ----- the Justice of God.
Jesus told his followers that he would be put to death and then raise from the dead 3 times
Matthew 20:18–19 ESV
“See, we are going up to Jerusalem. And the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death and deliver him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified, and he will be raised on the third day.”
Even though he made these claims, when he hung on that tree the disciples were scattered. They were over come with sadness and lack of understanding of what was about to take place. The women prepared spices but had to wait until the sabbath passed to return to the tomb, but they were prepared to encounter a dead body.
The Jews and the Romans were preparing to make sure no one stole the body.
Matthew 27:65–66 ESV
Pilate said to them, “You have a guard of soldiers. Go, make it as secure as you can.” So they went and made the tomb secure by sealing the stone and setting a guard.

John 20:1–21 ESV
Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb. So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.” So Peter went out with the other disciple, and they were going toward the tomb. Both of them were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. And stooping to look in, he saw the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in. Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen cloths lying there, and the face cloth, which had been on Jesus’ head, not lying with the linen cloths but folded up in a place by itself. Then the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed; for as yet they did not understand the Scripture, that he must rise from the dead. Then the disciples went back to their homes. But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb, and as she wept she stooped to look into the tomb. And she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had lain, one at the head and one at the feet. They said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.” Having said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing, but she did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.” Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned and said to him in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means Teacher). Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’ ” Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord”—and that he had said these things to her. On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.”

John 20:1-
John 20:1-
Mary’s love for the Lord is palpable here. She had been told on so many occasions he would rise. The emotional rollercoaster from Friday going through the Sabbath and now here on Sunday she is overcome with sadness once again she is convinced someone has stolen the Lord’s body. Remained a skeptic
The compassion of Jesus here revealing himself to Mary with personally addressing her by name. Telling her he will soon ascend to the father. She goes to tell the others.
The fact that God revealed the resurrection first to women is awesome and would never in a million years been done if someone was making this up in a lie. The culture in this day didn’t take the testimony of Women seriously.
Jesus appears through the locked door (Resurrection body) but still physical and shows them his hands and the whole in his side. His mission is complete but in verse 21 he is now setting them up for their mission and ours.
1 Corinthians 15:14 ESV
And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain.

WHAT NOW?? What are some implications of the resurrection for us.

The newness of Life

Acts 17:31 ESV
because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead.”
Paul here preaching to the philosophers in Athens Greece tells them of a coming day of Jesus.
Jesus defeated sin, the curse of sin, the penalty for Sin, the bondage of sin. He defeated the devil and he defeated death it self.
Colossians 2:12–15 ESV
having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead. And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.
Colossians 2:12
The very power of God that raised Jesus has now made the new birth available for anyone who would recieved it. He will cause the spirit to regenerate your spirit causing a new birth to occur.
Romans 4:25 ESV
who was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification.
rom 4:
This is true for the new believer but this is a glorious truth for even the most seasoned believer. To remember what the Grace of God has done for you. PROPELLING US TO GOOD WORKS
The work was finished on the Cross. We receive salvation and eternal life, the forgiveness of our sins through faith alone in Jesus Christ
Romans 4:25 ESV
who was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification.
This means the day of Judgement for the Christian already happened
3. We too are included in the present reality of the resurrection of Jesus
Colossians 3:1–5 ESV
If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.
Colo 3:1-
4. This gives us indestructible hope. We now are strangers in this world. We belong to another Kingdom now. We await the return now of Christ. In this hope we live each day as a servant of Christ spreading his message of good news and love to all people. It was Jesus who said, they will know you are my disciples by your love for one another.
BUT we too will be included in a bodily resurrection
Isaiah 26:19 ESV
Your dead shall live; their bodies shall rise. You who dwell in the dust, awake and sing for joy! For your dew is a dew of light, and the earth will give birth to the dead.
Romans 4:25 ESV
who was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification.
This is a prophesy about the future rapture, Paul mentions this same occasion in he was comforting the Thessalonian believers regarding death and what happens to their fellow believer when they die. He says
1 thess 4:14-
1 Thessalonians 4:14–18 ESV
For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words.
What this means is all of us will receive a new body. Everyone who belongs to Christ will be given a new body that is like the glorified body of Christ. This we will live in the new Jerusalem. says this will happen in a twinkle of an eye. In a moment our bodies will be changed to a immortal body.
