The Lord said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, “This month shall be for you the beginning of months. It shall be the first month of the year for you. Tell all the congregation of Israel that on the tenth day of this month every man shall take a lamb according to their fathers’ houses, a lamb for a household. And if the household is too small for a lamb, then he and his nearest neighbor shall take according to the number of persons; according to what each can eat you shall make your count for the lamb. Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male a year old. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats, and you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of this month, when the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill their lambs at twilight.
“Then they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses in which they eat it. They shall eat the flesh that night, roasted on the fire; with unleavened bread and bitter herbs they shall eat it. Do not eat any of it raw or boiled in water, but roasted, its head with its legs and its inner parts. And you shall let none of it remain until the morning; anything that remains until the morning you shall burn. In this manner you shall eat it: with your belt fastened, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. And you shall eat it in haste. It is the Lord’s Passover. For I will pass through the land of Egypt that night, and I will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and on all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am the Lord. The blood shall be a sign for you, on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you, when I strike the land of Egypt.
“This day shall be for you a memorial day, and you shall keep it as a feast to the Lord; throughout your generations, as a statute forever, you shall keep it as a feast. Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread. On the first day you shall remove leaven out of your houses, for if anyone eats what is leavened, from the first day until the seventh day, that person shall be cut off from Israel. On the first day you shall hold a holy assembly, and on the seventh day a holy assembly. No work shall be done on those days. But what everyone needs to eat, that alone may be prepared by you. And you shall observe the Feast of Unleavened Bread, for on this very day I brought your hosts out of the land of Egypt. Therefore you shall observe this day, throughout your generations, as a statute forever. In the first month, from the fourteenth day of the month at evening, you shall eat unleavened bread until the twenty-first day of the month at evening. For seven days no leaven is to be found in your houses. If anyone eats what is leavened, that person will be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he is a sojourner or a native of the land. You shall eat nothing leavened; in all your dwelling places you shall eat unleavened bread.”
Then Moses called all the elders of Israel and said to them, “Go and select lambs for yourselves according to your clans, and kill the Passover lamb. Take a bunch of hyssop and dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and touch the lintel and the two doorposts with the blood that is in the basin. None of you shall go out of the door of his house until the morning. For the Lord will pass through to strike the Egyptians, and when he sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the Lord will pass over the door and will not allow the destroyer to enter your houses to strike you. You shall observe this rite as a statute for you and for your sons forever. And when you come to the land that the Lord will give you, as he has promised, you shall keep this service. And when your children say to you, ‘What do you mean by this service?’ you shall say, ‘It is the sacrifice of the Lord’s Passover, for he passed over the houses of the people of Israel in Egypt, when he struck the Egyptians but spared our houses.’ ” And the people bowed their heads and worshiped.
Then the people of Israel went and did so; as the Lord had commanded Moses and Aaron, so they did.
At midnight the Lord struck down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the firstborn of the livestock.

Intro - We like to skip steps. Met with some Mormon missionaries and they simply regurgitated propoganda without understanding it. They skipped some steps in their education. We like to skip to the resurrection and forget the crucifixion.

TR: The first thing that we must realize is that the passing over of sin is for those in the household of faith...
Household
Household
The Passover is a unique celebration
In order to participate in the celebration of the actions of God you need to be part of the household of faith.
Those that wish to partake in the benefits of the sacrificial lamb MUST share in the same belief.
See it was going to so fabulous that it’s going to literally change how you track time…today is going to be the first month of the year.
So the people had to go get a sacrificial lamb that was spotless.
And no matter the level of who someone in the assembly they received their share in the lamb.
The sense of unity is strong here and is something that we often miss.
and you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of this month, when the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill their lambs at twilight.
If someone that is not a part of Israel wants to partake in it they must accept the sign of the covenant which was circumcision.
There is a unity in the faith, it is not individualistic. Some people didn’t have enough and the assembly was called upon to share!
ANYBODY THAT WANTED TO GET BEHIND THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB COULD AND IT WAS THE ASSEMBLY OF GOD THAT WAS ENTRUSTED WITH MAKING THAT HAPPEN.
Think about that and how that is true of us. If someone is looking for belonging they’re going to look to YOU!!!
If you want to partake in the benefits of the lamb of God you MUST be part of the household of faith.
The effectiveness of what the Lord was about to do was predicated on the unity of the of the people of God in sharing the spotless lamb.
TR: Those that are a part of this household are ready to go...
Haste
Haste
One of the key identifiers of those that shared in the sacrifice of the Lamb is their preparedness to depart.
The Hebrews were commanded to prepare Unleavened Bread, why?
Because they would have to leave in such a quick fashion That they wouldn’t be able to let the dough rise.
In addition, they are to be fully clothed. They are to eat with their belt fastened and staff in hand ready to go.
Don’t worry about the leftovers or trying to make it fancy. You’re going to eat this in haste.
In this manner you shall eat it: with your belt fastened, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. And you shall eat it in haste. It is the Lord’s Passover.
Exodus 12:
I know we want to celebrate in the resurrection of Christ but some of us don’t yearn for the freedom.
I know because some of us are preparing 5 course meals here in captivity, kicking back our feet and relaxing ready for another day of oppression tomorrow.
There was an understanding that after the Lord was done with what He was going to do that it was going to be time to go. Are you READY FOR THAT???
DO YOU YEARN FOR FREEDOM FROM CAPTIVITY!!
All the crying, all the weeping.
I just read how there are churches worldwide that are being targeted today because of their belief. The people are literally waiting on Christians to gather for Easter just to slaughter them. While although we are in the world and need to be about making it a better place there is also the desire to be free of it. Like going on vacation and I can’t wait to leave.
The Resurrection of Jesus is the realization of that. That now being free from sin and death I yearn to be free from all remnants of it.
TR: we can eagerly wait for our deliverance because we have beheld the horror of the Lamb slain.
Horror
Horror
So many want the freedom of the cross but so few want the fellowship of the cross
See the Hebrews were made aware that they were going to be as one and were going to move in haste because the horror of what God was about to do was going to be life changing.
If you are still embracing a lifestyle of sin, trying to join the fellowship but bypassing the blood of the lamb you are simply a friendly Egyptian.
Nice enough but still in danger of the judgment of the Lord
You can’t get to the deliverance of God without first being behind the blood of the Lamb.
Not even a glance out the window was permitted but instead you are to remain behind the blood of the Lamb while the destroyer passed by.
The Hebrews had a symbol of a pure life needing to be taken so that they could be delivered.
It was through this spotless lamb that oppression was defeated.
Just as the Hebrews were mightily delivered from the bondage of slavery to Egyptians those who believe in Jesus are delivered from the bondage to sin.
And this was to be remembered continually and it was to be one of THEE primary things that identified the people of God.
What you celebrate tells what you value!!!
Exodus 12:24-
increase intensity
The realization that I KNOW that the Lord has passed over my sin purely because of the blood of the Lamb.
I wept and He heard and WHAT COME CLOSE TO MY DOOR PASSED BY ME!!!
When the consequence of sin arose to destroy me it had to STOP at the Lamb’s blood and COULD NOT come any farther.
As we celebrate today are you aware that God has atoned for your sin if you stand behind the blood of the Lamb?
That is the joy of the resurrection. That while there was DEATH and DESTRUCTION on one night....there was FREEDOM AND FELLOWSHIP with God the next.
What was HORROR FOR THIS WORLD was actually DELIVERANCE FOR GOD’S PEOPLE!!!
We are delivered by the blood of the Lamb.
TAKE TIME TO PRAY TOGETHER AND THANK GOD FOR EACH OTHER FOR WHAT WE HAVE IN JESUS.
