Introduction

The Last few weeks as we have prepared for Eucharist an act of communion with God and as an act of remembrance of the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ
As we have prepared For it
We have been talking about relationships
Relationships with God (up)
Restoring first Love
Relationship with Self
Doing away with those things that stop us from Relationship
Sin and guilt
Now we get to talk about outward relationships

Matthew 5:23-24

Matthew 5:23–24 LEB
Therefore if you present your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and first go be reconciled to your brother, and then come and present your gift.
Our relationship with others can and does effect our relationship with the Father.
This passage says when you are giving your offering and remember your brother has something against you.
That is to say when you are in your act of worship with God and you remember that another children of God has something against you. They Feel Wrong, real or perceived.
Then you are to get up stop what you are doing and go make it right
Like Wise Look at Mark 11:25
Mark 11:25 LEB
And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father who is in heaven will also forgive you your sins.”
Here if you are in you Praying so in yet another act of worship with/of God
And You have something against someone else, you are to forgive them
We are use to hearing this in another way
Forgive us Our sins as we forgive those who trespass against us
Lord’s Prayer

Disunity

Disunity in Christ’s body is a serious sin.
Why is that?
Because we look just like, if not worse than the world. The church has become a place where we can’t seek help. Because we shoot the wounded wounded.
Instead of lovingly help others towards restoration with open hands like Jesus Gave a great example of. We close fisted reject them and punish them for their mistakes. Through looks and stairs, through words and deeds.   That’s what happens when religion takes over the church instead of relationship.
Religion is a bad thing. Paul calls it Rubbish. Great word in the Greek. Basically saying that that pile the neighbor’s dog left on your front yard.
Philippians 3:8 NASB95
More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ,
That’s religion. A pile of number 2.
Religion cannot save you. Relationship can.
When Judgment happens God going to take account of your life. Some are going to say but I was very religious. I was in church. I gave. I prayed. You can pray without actually talking to god different groups are doing it all the time. I memorize the bible.
But Jesus is going to say I didn’t know you. You didn’t have a relationship. You were just religious. But the bible over and over is calling for Relationship. Relationship with God. And here relationship with others.
Even as Jesus is about to be arrested and Jesus knows it and is in the garden praying he prays for unity.
John 17:23
John 17:23 LEB
I in them, and you in me, in order that they may be completed in one, so that the world may know that you sent me, and you have loved them just as you have loved me.
In Unity others know that we are of God.
Now this doesn’t mean that we have to like everybody. You don’t have to enjoy every ones company. Easier to love some people from a distance. But need to restore your relationship with other believer so that there is unity in the Body .
SO if I am the offender I should delay my worship with God and reconcile so that my worship will be acceptable. If there is someone that you have wronged here Then before you partake reconcile
Not here start praying for them and for opportunity (which you might have to just make) to work things out with them this week
If I have been offended
I need to immediately forgive the offense even if they have not asked for it

What is it to forgive?

Not what we are often taught, It isn’t to forget. To forgive in not to forget and pretend it never happened. Someone who has been sexually abused will never forget. But can forgive. Doesn’t mean be stupid and keep letting it happen. If you are being sinned against sometimes need to get out of the situation. A wife with an abusive husband, Forgive him as you leave Because you can’t be in that situation. You are God’s image being defiled by man. It means making a conscious choice to forgive them.
Pray for them. Hope the best for them.
And ever time those feeling of hurt and anger rise up
Pray for them and the situation and overtime your emotions will match up to your choice to forgive
May need counseling in dealing
May nee to have someone arrested in order to stop them
But still forgive

Next Steps
