WOULD YOU DIE FOR A LIE?
Matt. 27:62-28:9
Intro –
… the resurrection is the very foundation of our faith
I Corinthians 15:14-20
I Corinthians 15:1-4
… it has always and continues to be attacked by others
Question: Would you die for a lie?
… CHRIST TAUGHT IT, HIS ENEMIES UNDERSTOOD IT, BUT HIS FOLLOWERS
DIDN’T EXPECT IT!
… Christ Taught It!
Matthew 16:21-22, 17:22-23, 20:17-19 Christ taught it clearly!
John 12:32-33
Luke 18:34 They didn't understand!
… His Enemies Understood It!
Matthew 27:62-66
… His Followers Didn’t Expect It!
• The Women - Mark 16:1-2
• The 12 Disciples – Luke 24:10-11, Mark 16:14
• Peter and John – John 20:3-10
• Thomas – John 20:24-31
• 2 Followers of Christ On The Emmaus Road – Luke 24:13-35
… SOMETHING CLEARLY CONVINCED THEM OF THE VERY THING THEY
COULDN’T BELIEVE AT FIRST, AND IT SO CONVINCED THEM IT TURNED
THEIR LIVES AROUND!
… the 2 on the road to Emmaus
… the disciples
… Thomas
… Others of His followers, for a period of 40 days! (Acts 1:3)
… The Apostle Paul, former persecutor, now preacher tells of Christ having appeared to
over 500 (that's just the number of the men!) I Corinthians 15:6
From "falling away" because the Shepherd has been "struck down" (Matt. 26:31) to
boldness! (Acts 2:22-24, 26, 37-38)
Many say the resurrection never happened, but …
Acts 4:33 "With great power … (they were) giving witness to the resurrection!"
Acts 5:40 "rejoicing" after being flogged, they "kept right on teaching and preaching
Jesus as the Christ!" (Would you suffer joyfully for a lie?)
Even more importantly: Would you die for a lie?

Conclusion - Were these men just stupid? Or were they changed by a tomb that was really empty, a Lord who had really risen from the dead? And if the tomb was empty, than everything said is true. So what will you do with Jesus as He offers forgiveness for sin through His death on a cross and His empty tomb?
For those already believers: The only appropriate response to the cross and the empty tomb is this … a gratitude and a thankfulness that will cause you to want to give yourself to Him and spend yourself for Him for the rest of your life!
