The Lord is risen! [He is risen indeed]

We still in the Easter season for the next 40 days after the Easter Sunday. Three years has been gone. Time has flown by so fast.

I would like to take this chance and may be on behalf of cohorts to give thanks to Rev Jo for his pastoral care and journey with us for the past three years. And also, Brenda who is really helping us and support all of us quietly from behind the scene. Last but not least, we would like to extend our appreciation to our family members for supporting us and sacrifice throughout this journey and forever more. How privilege it is for us to study at TTC.

Shall we turn to our family members; our spouse, our children and probably hold their hands and say "thank you for all your supporting and being with me throughout this journey and forever more."

Today I have three things to share from my reflection on my study at TTC. And I wish that this reflection may benefit some of us, to some extent.

The journey could be meaningful and a lot of fun when we travel with our friends. Study at TTC could be the right time to build our life-long friendship. We are created out of God's love; to have a relationship with God and with one another. Our Triune God is an excellent example of relational God; the relationship among God the Father, God the Son and Holy Spirit. We all need friends, especially in our journey with God; Friends who love one another, accept one another, loyal to each other, teach one another, correct one another, share burdens with one another and encourage one another. Do you have your spiritual friendship for this journey? If not, pray and ask from God for the spiritual friendship.

We are living in the most exciting moment in human history. The Context surrounding us keeps changing. One of the reasons that we are here at TTC is to shapen our mind with tons of knowledge. We all know that what we learn throughout these three years is just like; scratching on the surface. There are tons of knowledge theologically that we need to learn, and deeply reflect with prayer and meditation. The most important is learning how to unlearn and relearn.

Apostle Paul, on the way to Damascus, through his encounter with the risen Lord, he realized that he needs to unlearn, what he has learned for his whole life as Pharisee that that led him to prosecute the new movement,; allegiance to the Torah and re-learn what God has revealed to him -allegiance to Christ.

Me too, on the way to TTC graduation, I also encounter the bright light. It was the light from my reading lamp, day-in-day-out, through study at TTC, I have been learning to unlearn and relearn theologically.

The learn-unlearn-and relearn process is an unpleasant experience; it is hard working, but it is rewarding. It humbles us and equips us theologically for our ministry. The theologically stretching at TTC is meaningful. I hope that after graduation, we still continue our life-long journey on learn-unlearn and relearn journey.

Theological training could easily turn us into a little Pharisee. So much emphasis on sharpening our mind; so many subjects that we need to go through for each semester; 5 to 6 subjects.

"There was a cell group pastor who has the schedule to visit each of cell group and leads the Bible study. The cell group pastor visits one of cell group as usual. During the bible study, the discussion started from the simple passage in the Bible and gradually led to discuss Christology and the CG pastor started to be confused. This cell group pastor did not go through proper theological training; as a result, the discussion somehow was geared toward the rejection of the divinity of Christ at baptism (Arianism). A new graduate pastor from the seminary of this cell group could not stand anymore, defend the divinity of Christ as if this cell group pastor was enemy of Christ. I feel the sense of you do not know the truth, I know the truth. That kind of posture and mentality. To my surprise, this senior cell group pastor responded with a gentle, humble and teachable spirit and later accepted to cell group that her teaching was wrong.

We can draw a lesson from this episode, learn from these two extremes. Theological education is essential in ministry, at the same time, we should use it wisely with love. Apostle Paul knew this very well from his life experience, who once persecuted the church with all his knowledge of God, rightly said in his letter that "Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up."

Friends, we all have the privilege to study at TTC, many can not do this. This privilege has a divine purpose. We should use our knowledge with love, to build up the body of Christ. May the Lord not only equip us with all divine knowledge but also fill us with a humble and teachable spirit.
