Jesus addresses those who were confident in their own righteousness by telling a parable
The first one went tot eh temple and prayed all about himself in comparison to other sinners and highlights the two articles of the law that he accomplished.
The other man was a tax collector and good only cry out for mercy.
Jesus declares the tax collector justified before God and not the pharisee
confidence must come from the declaration of our Lord
Our posture become open and we are able to confess and acknowledge that we need Jesus
Complete trust is an open heart that is ready to receive from God anything.

The kingdom of God belongs to those like children
A child seems to be predisposed to trusting in those in authority, for example when confronted on the playground children will say, “my dad can beat up your dad”
This is depending on the strength of a parent and not their own so they are putting their confidence in the father
Not knowing what to demand affords the opportunity to bypass expectations and enter into gratitude
The only way to receive the kingdom of God is to receive it like a child
Gratitude is key to receiving the kingdom but is complicated by an adults expectations and preconceived notions.
we know what we want and how it should be and when it does not go our way we are disappointed
One cannot come before God with an open hand demanding what God puts in it. SO, to receive the kingdom from him is to receive his gifts not our desires.
A.W. Tozer said, “We want to get the power of God into our hands, to call it to us that it may work for us in promoting and furthering our kind of Christianity. We want still to be in charge, guiding the chariot through the religious sky in the direction we want it to go, shouting "Glory to God," it is true, but modestly accepting a share of the glory for ourselves in a nice inoffensive sort of way.”
I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”
