The Scribes and Pharisees Rejected Christ in Pride

They were fearful for their power and envious of Jesus’ following.

They did not want Him to rule over them.

Pride is reserving for myself what belongs to God.

Pilate Responded to Christ with Procrastination then Pragmatism

Three times he said, “I find no fault.”

He knew Christ’s innocence.

He knew Christ’s identity.

He could not claim ignorance yet he pushed off the decision, until he finally, had to give into the crowd.

The First Thief Reviled Christ in Presumption

He mocked Christ’s sacrifice.

He was only interested in the physical relief Jesus could “possibly” give.

He would have made Christ his servant to be summoned upon demand.

The Second Thief Received Christ’s Propitiation and Pardon

He recognized his own sin.
