THE FEAR OF UNCERTAINTY
THE FEAR OF UNCERTAINTY
A Little boy was afraid of the dark. One night his mother told him to go out to the back porch and bring her the broom.
The little boy turned to his mother and said, “Mama I don’t want to go out there,. It’s dark.”
The mother smiled reassuring her son. “You don’t have to be afraid of the dark,” she explained, “Jesus is out there, He’ll look after you, and protect you.”
The little boy looked at his mother real hard and asked, “Are you sure He is out there?” “Yes, I’m sure He is everywhere, and He is always ready to help you when you need Him.” She said.
The little boy thought about that for a minute and went to the back door and cracked it a little, peering out into the darkness. He called, “Jesus? If your out there would you please hand me the broom?”
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.
30 I and my Father are one.
John 10:37-
Pray
I titled this morning sermon:
“Fear of Uncertainty”
The Bible tells us that we are to FEAR ONLY ONE THING!
And that’s The Lord!
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: And the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
Proverbs
“FEAR” is not the problem in our lives.
We all fear something.
Darkness
Spiders
Snakes
Our wives.
It’s the “UNCERTAINTY” that is the real problem.
Uncertainty of what’s out there.
Uncertainty of what will happen
Uncertainty of our future.
Uncertainty is the real fear.
For many Born Again Christians, this causes a problem with their personal relationship with the Lord.
Uncertainty about their Salvation,
Many Born Again Christian struggle with this one question?
Am I really SAVED?
Did I really accept Jesus Christ as my personal saviour?
I’m I really going to Heaven?
If I’m really saved, then why do I keep sinning?
It is my hope that I can put your mind to ease, and after I’m finished with this sermon.
You will know without a shadow of a doubt that you are truly saved or your not.
The purpose of this sermon is to allow you once and for all, to get rid of the “FEAR of UNCERTAINTY.”
I. Misconception About Salvation.
I. Misconception About Salvation.
Salvation is earned. (You must be baptized, you good, etc.)
You can’t earn your salvation!
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Ephesian
You can’t work for it.
You can’t pay for it.
You can’t trade for it.
Salvation is a gift from God!
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
That word “GAVE” means “GIFT”
It’s “FREE”
If baptism was a requirement then , would be Irrelevant.
Baptism, would make salvation by works.
You would have to do something to receive a free gift.
40 But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?
41 And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.
42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.
43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.
Luke 23:
If baptism was a requirement for salvation.
Jesus would have had to come off the cross.
Jesus would have to take the thief off the cross.
Jesus would have to baptise the thief.
Jesus would have to be placed back on the cross so, He could die on the cross.
To give you salvation.
None of us here today are GOOD ENOUGH for God.
If we got what we deserve, we would be burning in Hell today.
My Bible tells me that there are none righteous.
10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
Roman 3:
23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
None of us on this earth is perfect.
If a person tell you they don’t sin they are a “LIER”
The bible say’s “If a person says, he hadn’t sin he is a lier and the truth is not in him.
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
1 John 1
I’m telling you we all are nothing but a bunch of;
Good for nothing,
Dirty,
Stinking,
Rotten to the core,
SINNERS, deserving of Hell.
While studying for this sermon, I came across a sermon by an Apostolic pastor.
He made the statement; “I find no biblical truth in once saved always saved doctrine, many scriptures will follow in this message to back up my the Word of God.
Once saved always saved?
If you believe this doctrine I hope you are correct. Personally I find too many biblical scripture to the contrary.
I believe in eternal security only if you live a holy life before God.
I don’t know what Bible this guy is using, probably the NIV, cuz, I know it’s not the KJV.
None of us can live a perfect holy life.
That would be like living under the Law in the Old Testament.
That’s why Jesus Christ had to die on the cross as the one time perfect Lamb sacrifice.
God know’s we could never live a perfect holy life.
That belief is what I call “EGG SHELL” Religion.
You ask what is the Egg Shell Religion?
If you could lose your salvation, you would be walking on egg shells.
The “QUESTION”, What would cause me to lose my “SALVATION”?
In God’s eyes, Sin is Sin.
What sin would cause me to lose my salvation?
No the uncertainty will start on your fears.
How many sins will cause me to lose my salvation?
One sin?
Two sins?
Three sins?
If in God’s eyes Sin is Sin, I would think that one sin would cause you to lose your salvation.
Why? Because God hates Sin.
Since God hates sin, and if you sin, you lose your salvation, then
It’s like walking on egg shells.
Every time you cuss, you would have to get save.
You would have to get saved again every time you sinned.
That means, you have to put Jesus back on the cross,.
He would have to be sacrificed again, and again, and again.
Just like they did in the Old Testament to cover your sins.
My King James 1611 Bible tells me that Jesus had to only die once for the remissions of my sins.
There is no need for me to have any other sacrifices for my sins.
II. The Three D’s of Satan.
II. The Three D’s of Satan.
Satan try’s to sew three D’s into a believers life
Discouragement
Satan always try’s to discourage a believer!
Reasons:
Makes the believer ineffective in the Lord’s service.
If your discouraged, it’s hard to lift others up.
Discouragement cause a strain on your personal relation with the Lord.
Discouragement will cause you to stop serving the Lord.
Going to Church.
Being active in the church ministries.
Stop Witnessing.
Doubt
Satan try’s to cause doubt in a believers life!
Resons:
Doubt their salvation.
You’er an ineffective witness.
If you are in doubt, how can you lead others to Jesus Christ?
Doubt the Bible.
Doubt will cause you to doubt God’s Word.
Satan plants doubt, so we would question God.
If God loves us why do all these bad things keep happening?
If God knew Adam and Eve was going to sin, why did He create them?
Why did God not destroy satan, when he rebelled in heaven?
If satan can get you to start questioning God.
He has made you ineffective for His service.
Despair
Satan sews despair in our lives to keep us down
We live in a world that is filled with despair.
We are truly ineffective when we are in despair.
Despair is the feeling of not having any hope left.
I can’t take it anymore!
Satan uses despair crush our relationship with the Lord.
God doesn’t love me anymore!
God has turned His back on me!
Despair will cripple the ministry.
I’m not going to church anymore, because nothing is going right for me.
I’m so, depressed, I just can’t go to church today, I have just got too many problems.
Has satan sewed the seeds of the three D’s in your life.
III. How To Know If I’m Truly Saved.
III. How To Know If I’m Truly Saved.
I ask everyone one I witness to, or anyone that says, there not sure about their salvation this question?
Do you remember a time when you accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal saviour?
If they say, “Yes”, I say tell me about your conversion?
The Date? (if known)
The Place? (if known)
Who Lead you to your conversion?
Witness’s? (friend, relatives, pastor, teachers, that were present.)
Scriptures used? (Romans Road)
What did you do? (said the sinners prayer)
Did you tell people about your conversion? (who)
How did you feel afterwards? (joy, happiness, can walk on air)
A person who truly accepts and believes on the name Jesus Christ should remember some of the things they did to get saved.
If you can’t remember doing ant of those things, then I can understand the “Fear of Uncertainty.”
IV. The Five Steps to Salvation.
IV. The Five Steps to Salvation.
Realize you are a sinner.
My favorite question I ask is “How many sins does it take to make a sinner?”
12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
Romans
23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
We must all come to this point in our lives, and realize that we are a sinner heading for the gates of hell.
You must realize that there is a penalty for sin.
When you work at your job, you receive a wage for your work that you do.
The same thing is with God. Because we all sin, we receive the wages for sin.
23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
Revelation 21
12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
Because of sin we all have an appointment with Death.
27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
3. Acknowledge that Jesus Christ, God’s only Son paid
the price for your sins.
God loved us so, much that He gave His Son to die for our sins, the perfect and only blood sacrifice that was needed.
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:
Jesus became our substitute for judgment.
If we will accept Him as our saviour.
We won’t have to spend an eternity in hell.
4. Acknowledge that Jesus Christ wants to give you the
“Free Gift of Eternal Life.”
If someone gives you a gift, it’s not truly your until you accept it.
23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
It’s not enough just to believe, you have to accept.
Hell is full of people that believe that Jesus Christ was real.
Hell is full of people who wished they accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal saviour.
Hell is full of people that wished they had one more chance to accept the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal saviour.
The word “BELIEVE” means, To accept something as true, or truth, to feel, to hold , maintain, assume, or surmise.
The word “ACCEPT” means, A consent to receive, welcome, acquire, gain, or obtain.
As you can see to believe is not the same as accept.
5. Believe in Jesus Christ and ask Him to be your
personal saviour.
There are two things a person must do:
You must “CONFESS”, or tell God verbally that you are a sinner and that Jesus Christ His Son is the only one who can cleanse you from your sin.
quire, gain, or obtain.
You must “BELIEVE”, in your heart that Jesus died, was buried, and rose again, that He is the only way to obtain salvation.
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
: 9
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
All that is required of you is to simply ask and accept.
Pray the sinners prayer.
V. The Promise of Eternal Security.
V. The Promise of Eternal Security.
Let me put the “FEAR of UNCERTAINTY” away for ever.
Do you remember doing the “FIVE STEPS TO SALVATION?”
Do you remember anything about your “CONVERSION?”
If you do let me put your mind to ease today!
John
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.
23 (Howbeit there came other boats from Tiberias nigh unto the place where they did eat bread, after that the Lord had given thanks:)
37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
John
28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
John
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,
13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
1 John
22 Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.
2 Corinthians
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:38-
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Ephes
6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:
Philippians
10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.
11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
: 19-
30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
Ephesians 4:
The phrase “Sealed until the day of redemption” mean until the Rapture of the church.
After the Rapture, we don’t have a need to be sealed,
Because we will be in heaven if you know Him.
VI. You should Have No Need to Fear Uncertainty.
VI. You should Have No Need to Fear Uncertainty.
If you have truly accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal saviour.
God has placed a “SEAL” on you that can’t broken by Satan or Man.
If you have doubt, it could be that Satan has planted the seeds of the 3D’s in your life.
Discouragement
Doubt
Despair
Only you know if he did.
If your not serving the Lord like you should, that’s why you are doubts.
You can’t be a part time Christian, and exspect full time benefits.
You can’t give 10% of your time to God and feel like a Christian.
You can’t hold hands with the devil and God at the same time.
You can’t serve two masters.
24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
We as Christians are to live a separate life then the world.
When we start to doubt salvation is sometimes because God is convicting us that we are sinning and need to get right.
When you believed you got saved did you see a change.
17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
2 Corinthians 2
If you never seen a change in your life.
If you not committed to the Lord 110%.
If after all that I preached today.
You still have “DOUBT”
You really need to get things right with the Lord.
