1 Peter 5:12–14 ESV
By Silvanus, a faithful brother as I regard him, I have written briefly to you, exhorting and declaring that this is the true grace of God. Stand firm in it. She who is at Babylon, who is likewise chosen, sends you greetings, and so does Mark, my son. Greet one another with the kiss of love. Peace to all of you who are in Christ.
1. What does Peter “declare” that this “brief” letter of “exhortation” is?The true grace of God.2. What does Peter want his readers to do now that they have read the letter?Stand firm in it.Final summary:We must remember who we are and whose we are. We are the People of God. God has chosen us, died to save us so that we could become His children. We are now no longer of this just citizens of earth, but we are also of heaven; we are a Special People. We are special because we are a Saved People who are called to be holy as God is holy. But we are not left on our own. God indwells us through the Holy Spirit to enable us to become like Christ more and more every day. This is why we can call ourselves a Sanctified People. As a result, we have a Submissive attitude as we Serve God by serving others in our family, the local church and in the community. Finally, the People of God may Suffer, but even in suffering, we can rejoice since Jesus suffered too. But why? What is the purpose for our being chosen, being saved, sanctification, submissiveness, service, and suffering? One answer- To Glorify God and in so doing, attract others to Christ so that they too can glorify God as they become a part of the People of God.
