I. When we are in Christ

In There is no condemnation to them which are in Christ it also Refers to the penalty for sin, which is separation from God. Paul’s assertion that there is no condemnation for believers summarizes the primary message of this chapter: Christ has brought life to those who deserved death and freedom to those who were guilty under the law.
there is no condemnation for justified believers in Christ because they have peace in God
The law of sin and death is deprived of it power to bring believers into bondage again.
Barry, J. D., Mangum, D., Brown, D. R., Heiser, M. S., Custis, M., Ritzema, E., … Bomar, D. (2012, 2016). Faithlife Study Bible (). Bellingham, WA: Lexham Press.
As Christ, who “knew no sin,” was, to all legal effects, “made sin for us,” so are we, who believe in Him, to all legal effects, “made the righteousness of God in Him” (); and thus, one with Him in the divine reckoning.

II. Spirit Has made us Free

Holy Spirit gives us life and empowers us to do what is right- conscious
“sets us free,” as soon as it takes possession of our inner man, “from the law of sin and death” that is, from the enslaving power of that corrupt principle which carries death in its bosom.
Christ jesus has made us free indeed.

Text Comparison
LN 37.135 Louw-Nida
Through the death of Christ, believers receive righteousness; through the Spirit, they are empowered to obey the essence of the law—to love (; ).
Paul contrasts two ways of living: The flesh leads people to oppose God, so they are unable to obey Him; the Spirit dwells within believers and empowers them to do God’s will.

Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, on the one hand I myself with my mind am serving the law of God, but on the other, with my flesh the law of sin.

so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.
If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.

But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised.

But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me; for you are not setting your mind on God’s interests, but man’s.”
For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace,
because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so,
