The Scarecrow

The scarecrow is my favorite character which, and his tale is truly tragic. He goes through his entire life thinking he’s dumb because he lack’s a brain. He is then promised one by the Wizard of Oz only to be handed a diploma.
Tell me, does a diploma make you smart or even knowledgable? I realize many of you have a diploma of some sort, from your lives, the most valuable parts, were they because of your diploma?
I’m not saying diplomas are bad, in fact they are very affective tools. Because thats what they are, a tool. Even then the knowledge of your tools isn’t wisdom. Wisdom is how and when to handle them…

The beginning of Wisdom

Psalm 111:10 ESV
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever!
My ability to provoke - Will my action or inaction provoke him to deadly force? What is more than death? Surely damnation being cut off eternally.
His ability to act - He can move swiftly and precisely with eternally deadly force.
How far is He willing to go? - There is nothing he wont do to maintain His holiness and his relationship with His creation.
Isaiah 53:5–6 ESV
But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
What should I do?
Proverbs 2:6 ESV
For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding;
Proverbs 19:20 ESV
Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future.

Foolishness to the world

The pursuit of wisdom, requires the relinquishing of control. For those of you who believe they have achieved or acquired something of value, that your neighbors would envy You must let that go.
1 Corinthians 3:18–19 ESV
Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is folly with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their craftiness,”
The wisdom of God is completely foreign to the world. Thats why Pilot couldn’t come to grips with Jesus. What is truth? So you are a king?
Set it down, put it in its box.

Folly of our preaching

1 Corinthians 1:20–23 ESV
Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe. For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles,
You can’t earn it. It doesn’t matter if you live a terrible life of heartache and hurt you are still saved.
You can’t lose it. It’s not like you can misplace it, “Oh geeze I forgot where the church was located for 60 years my bad.” Because Jesus was always coming after you.
You can’t enhance it. Grace is not fair. Thank God!
