I stand before you one redface guy.
We know what to do, to put on Sun screen and I did but I didn’t do enough.
Life is like that - know what to do but don’t do it or you did it but not enough
Gets a lot more serious.
We know how we should
treat our bodies
treat someone else
Then there are thinks we don’t really know how to do or why they are a big deal but we should be doing them right?
How we are to treat God.
We might know what God called on us to do, or we might know just little bit
But we didn’t do it.
Regret is like a sunburn.
it doesn’t matter how we feel about it, it will show itself
With much of what we screw up in life, Like a sun burn, we can go along trying to tell ourselves no big deal.
ignore it and keep exposing ourselves to danger
But like a sunburn it shows.
Shows in how we keep making the same mistakes, keeping beating ourselves up, keeping trying to earn our way back, keep focusing on what was lost.
Our regrets show back up
Christ gives new ways to respond to regret.
Christ was and is perfect.
That isn’t helpful for regret, just makes us more aware but the ancient text, the Bible also records people just as screwed up as us, or even more screwed up.
First, two weeks ago we talked about Easter.
Jesus rose from the dead.
But lets talk about before that.
The night before Jesus died on the cross, he shared the Last Supper with the disciples.
During that meal
Luke 22:20-24
These disciples whom Jesus taught to love God and love others, whom he taught blessed are the peacemakers, and more were fighting.
AFTER THE LORD’s SUPPER
You’re not alone!
Even those closest to Jesus had reason to regret!
That same night, Jesus led them to a garden to pray.
While this happened at night look how close the garden is to Jerusalem and the temple.

Prayer is like sunscreen, it can prevent regret.
So of course the disciples would listen to Jesus and pray, nope
Luke 22:
Right then a mob came, Judas one of the disciples signaled to the mob who Jesus was with a kiss.
The disciples who once again had been told that Jesus was going to die, who had been told blessed are the peacemakers, picked up a sword and started swinging.
Jesus put a stop to it, was arrested and then most of those disciples who said they would never betray or leave Jesus took off!!
Abandoning Jesus to pursue what we fear to lose is common, so is the regret!
joy in life, sexual fulfillment, worth, fame, healing, wealth, love, or even life itself
If the story ended here it would just be a bunch of tragedy and pathetic abandonment.
Maybe for many of you that’s where you feel your story is.
A list of your pathetic actions and failures.
Unlike Avengers time travel isn’t real but the resurrection of Jesus Christ certainly was.
I told you that the book of acts tells of what happens after the resurrection, the part 2.
In it we begin to see God’s forgiveness
Understand this that all forgiveness comes through Jesus Christ
How does God do with this?
When we call upon the name of the Lord?
What does that mean, we believe by our actions that God came as Jesus, He was born, Jesus lived, died paying the punishment for my sin and yours.
and then rose again!
He is God and we will live for Him.
God forgives all our sins, he does this by doing a miracle
You and I cannot forget sin, God can.
It’s called the miracle of forgiveness.
I still remember a lot of the things I did, those that were done not knowing what would happen and those done on purpose.
God made us this way so we can learn.
God chooses to forgive you and He won’t bring up your failures upon judgement.
God, the righteous judge sees the cross.
But the resurrection of Jesus, isn’t just about forgiveness it is about a new life!
It is restoration.
New can me receiving opportunities as your new self, to do something very similar to what you failed at before but now as a follower of Christ, you are a completely new person, with the Holy Spirit in you, around you, guiding you.
Look what happened to the disciples after Jesus was resurrected and after he left this earth with a promise that he would return one day.
So after he left, look what happened.
First before he left he told them not to leave Jerusalem even though none of them were from Jerusalem.
Now to the part right after Jesus said see you later.

They did the simple thing - stay in Jerusalem, but the tough thing none of them were from Jerusalem.
They were foreigners.
It is said they returned from the mt. of olives, guess what is on the slopes of the mt. of olives?
That’s right the garden.
These are the exact same guys that were at the supper minus the betrayer.
They could’ve been in the same room or a similar type room in a different part of the city.
WHAT!!
These guys who fought, who battled about who was better, who couldn’t say awake one night, Now gathered and were united in prayer
It doesn’t say it in this verse but this happened for days!!!
Sunscreen is like prayer, its good to have a friend when using.
High School.
No one would put sunscreen on me.
At the end of the day I had splashes of sunburn on my back.
Wednesday nights have been wonderful.
If you are not in a small group your missing out on church.
My daughters were not intimate in their sunscreen
Close friends can pray warnings, keep you up or down, make sure your back has full coverage!
Prayer is individual and it unites us in groups
These men were told to do one thing, stay in Jerusalem and pray.
While there the disciples were asked to do one thing - to pray (they failed)
They said they would stay loyal: When the arrest came, at first they fought- not Jesus way, and then they scattered and hid (they failed)
Resurrection allows for a redo
After Jesus was resurrected he told the disciples not to leave Jerusalem 1:4
They stayed
The next scene is at the 2000 paces on the slopes near the Garden again
Walking together (spending close to 40 days together)
The men were as diverse as could be
Peter, a fisherman, and spontaneous, poor impulse control, adventurous.
He literally was the first out of the boat.
John and James, fought so much, Jesus nicknamed the sons of thunder
They did and the whole world changed but they also were completely restored.
