Intro

3rd Sunday of Easter — Not 3rd Sunday after Easter
Remember: Easter is resurrection — not 3rd Sunday after resurrection but of Resurrection
We are living in the resurrection of Christ right now!
I want us to keep building off of Resurrection Sunday (Easter)
by focusing on 3 very important things
Christ is always taking the initiative with us (He always comes to us)
Christ graciously provides for our needs as we live each day
Christ calls us to partake in His mission to care for our neighbour & save the world
Transition: Christ initiates, provides, and sends us into our everyday lives as forgiven and new people and it is all for His glory. Jesus is the initiator.

Initiator

Think about it
Resurrection tomb story w/Mary (John 20:1-18)
Emmaus Road (Luke 24:13-31)
Last week’s Text in the room (John 20:19-29)
(Acts 9) Saul’s conversion
Our text this morning — “Hey Children, any fish?” — “Come have breakfast”
They were not looking for Jesus, but Jesus was looking for them!
It has been 3 weeks now after the all powerful resurrection of Jesus
We have gone back to our everyday lives
Back to work
Back to what we know
The high of Easter Sunday has worn off or at least started dwindling.
Remember: the moment of Easter changes everything in our lives — but yet year after year the impact or awe of it all can dwindle...
Our world we live in is great for distracting us away from the power and mighty of that day when Jesus rose from the dead for you.
It is great for grinding you back into distractions, into business as usual to live in this world.
But the good news is that Jesus is the initiator — He says to you, “Come, have breakfast
Every morning Jesus is there to have breakfast with you
To fill you with His Holy Word of life and forgiveness
To fill you with His His strength and power (remember He gives to you the Holy Spirit)
That is the power given to you which manifests itself outward toward others in our everyday life
He initiates you because you are so so important to Him!
Yes, life goes on — Easter doesn’t mean the end of life or work, but rather it transforms us to faithful living and working in a new light.
A new light initiated by Jesus.
He says, “Come have breakfast with me”
Are you having breakfast with Jesus?
It is the most important meal of the day!
Transition: when you have breakfast with Jesus, he provides so much for you. He provides for all your needs.

Provider

Jesus provided for the disciples.
He provided direction for their fishing. (Throw the net on the right side of boat)
He provided the large catch of fish into their nets. (153 fish)
He provided food for them back on land. (had a fire for cooking, fish and bread to eat)
He provided them for all that they would need to be sustained.
He provides for you
He provides direction for your living in this world and your fishing for people.
He provides food to sustain you (both physical food and also spiritual — His Holy Word)
He provides time for you to sit and talk — through prayer/conversation
Sit down and have breakfast with Him — He makes time for you — make time for him
Tell him your needs (not wants)
Jesus Provides for His church — His body
The church’s work — how we reach out in our community, how we proclaim the forgiveness and life that is in Christ —
is only productive insofar as Jesus directs and effects it.
Remember — He is the head of this body
But he provides us everything we need to live as a light in our community
Transition: His provision - His providing for us is always for the sole purpose of expanding His kingdom — of saving the world from sin and darkness. Jesus provides so He can send.

Sender

Christ initiates and provides to build relationship and in turn send us out.
Look at John 21:15-18
John 21:15–18 NIV
When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.” Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.” The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep. Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.”
Look at Acts 9
Jesus initiates contact with Saul/Paul
Provides care through Ananias
Tells him to “go” sends
And Paul immediately preaches in the synagogues that Jesus is the Son of God!
Jesus is a sender
Last weeks text shows us that (unpack)
You are sent by Christ to be His witness to the world
Sent to proclaim life and forgiveness
Sent to take part in His mission to the world
Transition: You are sent because Christ dwells within you — because you live in the resurrection — it is present tense not past tense — you live in the resurrection now!

Conclusion

Christ comes to you
Invites you to have breakfast
reorient yourself closer to him and focus on your mission here within your vocation — within you life
He provides for you
To sustain you
Strengthen you
and prepare you for each day
He sends you
Out to proclaim His life — His complete forgiveness and hope
Sends you to love as he loves — to feed the sheep of this world with the love, grace, and mercy that is found in Jesus.
You may work hard and get distracted, maybe you do your hobbies and become distracted.
But in all these areas of life is purpose and meaningHe will provide you opportunities in the hobbies and workplace to glorify him and expand His kingdom!
He will provide, sustain, and send you amongst all that, to love others and give them the life that He has given to you!
We are a church that is sent on His mission!
He initiates, He provides, and He works in the sending
The H.S. is manifested inside each one of us to accomplish His mission
Let Him work through you!
All that you need is provided for you — all the strength and power to be Jesus’ witness to the world is given to you by the Holy Spirit!
AND IT ALL STARTS WHEN WE SIT DOWN — AND HAVE BREAKFAST WITH JESUS!
Amen.
