I would like to thanks and even though she's not here. Maybe I'll tell her I said this crappy me to leave worship today. I'm over the years. I've been fortunate to do it. Oakley and it does come with a warning label. I'm not a pastor. I have no formal training, but I speak from the heart and I am I enjoy doing it. It's a little daunting because I feel like it's kind of a big task that requires a lot of reading my wife thought and a lot of prayer. When I first read over the lesson today seemed appropriate here. We are two weeks after Easter. This is all about what happened after the resurrection and I always assumed that John wrote the Gospel of John. Why wouldn't you assume that it says the Gospel of John but I found out that it's a little bit open to interpretation and Pastor. Sandy said to me they're in the office Edition. Maybe John didn't write to him at all. I don't know. So that's one of those things that is out for discussion. but I paid that somewhere along the line. I read that tradition says that John wrote job. So, you know, sometimes you just have to rely on you. However, there is a strong suspicion that chapter 21, which is the very last chapter. John was an addendum. And then he is very likely was written by someone other than what they call the author of John. So I went back and I did some reading and how would you know, this was an addendum and actually it does feel like one because when you get to the end of chapter 20 of John that sounds like everything's tied up with a bow and it's done. But then it comes along chapter 21 and pastor had given me some printouts of a section of a commentary on chapter 21, and she said it was kind of the gold standard. It was a really old books you had to been around for a while. And she said she uses it a lot and whoever wrote this book and some of what I understood some of it was like the boys out here.

And this author says one of the reasons why we think someone else wrote that last chapter and or at least we know it's in the Denton is there are about twenty eight words or combinations and phrases or thoughts in that last chapter that don't appear anywhere in chapter 1 to 20. And so it's a little different and so we're going to go over how that last chapter happens. And I personally think it's kind of the theme of his bore. This is the third time that Jesus appears to the disciples. This is the time when Jesus was Peter on the spot and asks him over and over again you love me and of course we have to remember that there was a time not too long ago that that pees when Peter denied Jesus and so that was three times. This is three times. This is three lots of Threes here. Also in order to understand 21, let's rewind 220. This is the chapter chapter 20 of John is where Mary Magdalene goes to the tomb and she finds the tomb empty. Jesus is not there. So she runs and fights Peter and another disciple that was a disciple is not named who is referred to as the one Jesus loved. No, man, but the one Jesus loved Mary is that they had taken the the Lord out of the tomb. Where is he? She's panicked. Where is Jesus's body heater in the other disciple still-unnamed run to the tomb and the other disciple was a faster runner. So the other disciple. Their first head Peter and they confirm that Jesus was busy. Peter and the other one, they didn't get it. They just thought his body had been removed. They still weren't thinking in terms that he had risen from the dead. They assumed Jesus's body had been removed by the guards or whomever. They didn't know. So the disciples when they went back to their houses. Mary stayed and she wept she was inside the tomb and she wept. two angels appeared to her and she asked them where Jesus was. Did she turn and she saw Jesus? But you didn't recognize it. Then Jesus declared who he was and she realized it was him. So she ran to the other disciples and she told them I had seen the Lord. So that the Snowbowl what do they do? They gather in a locked room? Jesus k-30 Ferrera pregnant Jesus KJV them and he said he's be with you and they were overjoyed. Then follows the section of scripture where Thomas says. Well, I don't believe you are you're going to have to prove it to me. So Jesus says he doesn't speak. SoCal 420 ends after the part about Jesus revealing himself and confirming with Thomas 20-inch with this scripture because you have seen me you have believed. blessed are those who have not seen me and yet they to be and that's who we are. Jesus did in any other miraculous signs in the presence of the disciples end of chapter.

I believe in the destiny of the Gospel, but here comes a lot. What do you want? So keep in mind that this could be just an addendum. We don't know when we don't know later. It could have been written by John who knows Jesus at the very beginning of this scripture. And I think this word is really important again, Jesus showed himself again to the disciples at the Sea of tiberias. I think that.

There are these incidences that go along and he's confirming I think to the disciples, you know, you see it. Yeah, you see it. Yeah, you really sleepy and I think that Jesus is is too saying over and over again here. I am you need to believe it. The person that we vote today read today, it says he showed himself in this way. I looked up the NIV version and it said it happened this way. So it sounds like the beginning of the story. It's so here's the way it happened. Peter Thomas Nathaniel and other disciples It doesn't matter who it just matters that Peter and other disciples went fishing. And I take a picture of me is the metaphor of the capture of human beings. We see that all along and the gospels and who knows that's in a way see the metaphor of the fishermen. We see the metaphor of the shepherd over and over again stories that Jesus has told us. So Peter says and I am going fishing. It was an announcement. And the other is it said I will go with you now. Was a fisherman by pray he was a later by nature and he was an initiator but I don't know that he was always successful with it, but he kept trying and I Think Jesus. Sometimes that's supposed to feel sorry for Peter because Jesus is sometimes a little hard on him. He's the rock. The question is why did Peter go fishing? Did he need to work? Did he need to get back to work? Was he born was he angry was he worried? Was he frustrated it? Was he at Loose Ends? We don't know. I'm going fishing. I think I'll go fishing, you know, come on with me. Let's go fishing. We don't know what else to do. So here it is by these went out like out in the boat and that night they caught nothing. So early in the morning Wednesday drink and Jesus was standing on the shore, but the disciples did not recognize him again. They did not recognize him. I have Saturday. That I said why didn't recognize her. I mean they already three times she is as we don't know. What I said was he an apparition was his physical being look different. She says, I don't know but he did sit down and eat with them which would almost indicate your body. Show picture Jesus on the shore Peter and others in the boat and Jesus calls out to him children. You didn't catch any fish. Did you?

So there's this person they don't recognize on the shore and yelling out to them to season fisherman. You didn't catch anything picture. I know a sad and Jesus said well throw your net to the right side of the boat and you'll find some. So does Jesus mean put your net on the right side of the boat as opposed to the left side of boat? Or does he say put it on the right side of the bow meaning the correct side of the boat? I don't know. So they threw him on the right side of the boat and it called 153 fish. The question is if they fished all night, I didn't catch anything. And these are seasoned fishermen. They're professionals. Why did they try the other today?

Is that human nature of what we keep doing the same thing over and over and over again expecting the same results when we don't have results the first time or the second third fourth. That's human nature. So what the hell what is the significance of 153 fish? So there was a different idea 153 fish. There is something in the zekiel about lots of fish and maybe that relates to it and then they were half petitions who said if you take Mary's age * 4 / 3 * * 153 somebody else says who cares it's a lot of fish. So let's go with that. 2/7 * the recognition of Jesus it says okay the disciple whom Jesus loved. Said to Peter so we know it wasn't Peter the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter. It's the lower.

So Jesus says come come on the shore bring your fish. and we'll have a? They didn't ask him who he was. This was the third time that they had seen him and the third time they didn't recognize it. So this is where the story gets kind of interesting. Jesus said to Peter. Don't cater to you truly love me more than these.

More than the other disciples for their friends or their family or the other buddies when your coworkers. Tell me you love me more than these and Peter says yes, you know, I love you. Then Jesus said well, then go feed my man's.

Jesus says again a second time. Relate love me.

Yes, you'll be. All right. Love you. And Jesus says will that go take care of my she? The third time Jesus said Peter told me you really really really love me. And Peter is hurt some Persian say he was grieved. I'm thinking maybe a little angry because he thinks Jesus doesn't believe him and Peter says Lord, you know all things and you know, I don't know.

DND verse 19. Jesus says follow me! And this would have been a fine ending to the add-on chapter. That's the building of the Book of John. But Peter is human. And he does the human thing. First 20 Peter turns and he sees they are being followed by the other disciple that Jesus loved. Tell Jesse I didn't care what they say. He's having this conversation with Jesus that he's he's getting out of it. I'm pretty special. Jesus is calling me out. We're having this conversation and I look around and I see one of my buddies right there. And Peter said Lord, what about him?

So, what about him? Is he in on Delisa? Is he trying to take my daughter away? Are you really love him more than me. You can just see how that goes. Jesus says if I want him to remain alive until I return what's it to you? You must follow me.

I didn't mean that sounds pretty personal. It is not about others like Peter Mary Fred Sally fill in the name. It's about Suzanne. And I what I take away from this chapter is that we are responsible for ourselves and our relationship with Jesus. It's a one-on-one. We can't hire someone else in our place or assigned the task to others. I don't think that would be wonderful and easy if we could because then we'll be fired them when they don't do a good job for. Because I think we are the people who fail ourselves the most and it is on us to do the job. This is what we do ourselves all by herself.

And I think we are also like Mary Peter and the others. Will Obama recognize Jesus when it's right in front of us? But I can guarantee you that he always and seized up. The question is does. He always recognize us?

Are we always in the way of? The loving kind generous person who we want to be or do we have moments where we are like Peter we don't recognize what's right in front of us, and we don't even recognize ourselves. Because of your daily lives we spend time with others we go through periods of confusion and doubt. And Jesus sees us when we're fishing and Philly of any word you want for fishing? Shopping going to places coming to church all of that is fishing. Jesus knows that I know that we are human because he was also human and he had his moments of weakness. I think it's human nature for us to compare ourselves to others. I think it's human nature to get our feelings hurt. And and that hurts when your feelings get hurt. I think it's human nature to be jealous. to think of ourselves first I think it's human nature that we think we deserve more that we have all the right answers that we know how to get all the right answers. And all of that in and of itself that humanists is sad, but the resurrection was about the ultimate Act of forgiveness and the hope of a better life, which would be unencumbered by the Earthly messes that we find ourselves in. There is I think so much hope in this chapter. It doesn't matter who wrote it. It doesn't matter who added it on or when it got added it on but I think of anyways is the ultimate love chapter. Angie has Jesus says do you love me? Do you love me? Do you really love me? And if you do the answer is follow me.

Am I having a dinner? Who do you think? I don't know where it is the person who Jesus loved. Any ideas who that was? I think it was a disciple. I did some research on that and there's some. It's not 100% but most people think most scholars believe that it was John. That John was the other John was the person that Jesus loved and who knows maybe he wrote that last chapter and that's how he referred to himself. I don't know maybe somebody else wrote it who was there one of the other disciples and he knew that Jesus loved John. I don't know so that will remain a mystery forever. And I don't think we'll ever find out. I don't think we probably need to find So blessings to all of you. So what shall we do the offertory?
