What am I called to do?
Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not; 2 But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God. 3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. 5 For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake. 6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. 8 We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; 9 Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; 10 Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.[1]
What am I called to do? Is a sermon series that helps believers come into the knowledge of their callings. It also helps those who know their callings to not set there and do nothing, but to work their calling. In the first part of this series we are going to deal with the foundational structure “why the call”.
From a practical sense we all function in a in a specific skill or trade. These skill sets helps us find our jobs, climbing the corporate ladder, start our own businesses and even side hustles. As we refer to them as skills they are better known as gifts from God. They are gifts from God because he is the one who created you and placed that ability within you.
Typically, when we think about what we are called to do, we honestly start thinking of positions, titles and leadership offices. The truth is, true positions, titles and offices of leadership are divinely given by God to structure the church of Jesus Christ according to the calling not the other way around. Plainly speaking the title doesn’t bring validation to the call the call brings validation to the title.
Let’s answer the question, what is the calling? The calling is living, teaching and preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ.
· Living the kind of life that speaks you’ve been with Jesus
· Teaching family & friends about your faith in Jesus
· Preaching to those on the job and in the streets that our Savior came to die for the sin of the world, and got up out of the grave and lives forever
Believers are already called. How do we know that?
· Renounced the factors of sin
· The Light of Jesus has been revealed to you
· God the Father has entrusted the power of this calling to the frailness of man to reveal the glory isn’t in flesh but his Spirit.
· Faith in God provides the ability to overcome the devil.
