“College is a Learning Experience”
Robbie Anderson said that this weekend...I agree!
“College is a Learning Experience” Robbie Anderson
I agree!
As I share a passage of scripture with you this afternoon I want to draw you attention to the idea of a nest
When I think of a nest I have 3 immediate thoughts
is that fancy thermastat
Big Bird sitting in his nest on Sesame street
Is these three baby birds that I found on our porch during the first year we lived in our house
Many of you have created, or are starting to create nests of varying degrees that have nurtured the life that you lived in College over this past year or the last several years.
Some of you are going to continue nesting and some of you are going to start new nests.

Socrates put his strong hands on the man’s shoulders and pushed him under.
Thirty seconds later Socrates let him up.
“What do you want?” he asked again.
“Wisdom,” the young man sputtered, “O great and wise Socrates.”
Socrates pushed him under again.
Thirty seconds, thirty-five, forty – then Socrates let him up.
The man was gasping.
“What do you want, young man?”
Many of you have created nests of varying degrees that have nurtured the life that you lived in College over the last several years and you are about to leave that nest.
Some of you have begun to build nests, some of you have a more substantial set-up
Between heavy breaths the fellow wheezed, “Wisdom!
O wise and wonderful…” Socrates jammed him under again – forty seconds passed then fifty – then he let him up.
“What do you want?” “Air!” the young man yelled.
“I need air!” “When you want wisdom as much as you have just wanted air, then you will begin to find wisdom.”
This passage in Jude
He went looking for something He wanted and ended up figuring out what he needed
He went looking for something He wanted and ended up figuring out what he needed
What is it that you want ?
What is it that you need?
(NASB95)
20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit,
Jude
this is the making/finding our nest that cultivates learning to live God’s life.
This family is your nest, is becoming your nest, or it could be
21 keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting anxiously for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life.
This nest is to help you keep yourselves in his love
Just as our kids grow in our love, their understanding of how good we are, how much we love them, and why we know what is best - so do we with God’s love - if we will stay in it?
22 And have mercy on some, who are doubting;
walk with them in gentleness
23 save others, snatching them out of the fire; and
believer take action toward your brother who is in crisis or is playing with fire
on some have mercy with fear, hating even the garment polluted by the flesh.
we must be careful about those further along in sin when we seek to help them that we are not caught up in what they are
24 Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to make you stand in the presence of His glory blameless with great joy, 25 to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion and authority, before all time and now and forever.
Amen.
Take stock of what your nest is made out of?
If you are building yourself up on your faith... What are the things in your life that are enabling that?
If you are tearing your faith down, is it because you have nothing to build you up or are you investing in the wrong things?
The nest is given by God as one of the tools to help keep you in his love
Being in God’s love enables us to fight with and for those that need our help
