The Father has commission the Son of God to be the mediator.
He says in v7, “…everything You have given Me...” is another way of implying the same truth as v2, that Christ has authority over the whole earth.
"since you gave him authority over all flesh, so that he may give eternal life to everyone you have given him.” ()
His interest in the elect, those given to Him. "“I have revealed your name to the people you gave me from the world. They were yours, you gave them to me, and they have kept your word.” ()
His doctrine. Christ taught nothing unless it came from His Father.
"Jesus answered them, “My teaching isn’t mine but is from the one who sent me.” ()
It wasn’t His invention but came from His Father’s instruction.
His Power. "If I drive out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.” ()
OBSERVE. …from the life of Christ, His faithfulness to His Father.
He reveals to us the mind of God, His Father. "I know that his command is eternal life. So the things that I speak, I speak just as the Father has told me.”” () "The one who speaks on his own seeks his own glory; but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is true, and there is no unrighteousness in him.” ()
Now, if we would glorify God, we should learn of our Lord and master,
not speak from our own impressions,
nor to our own ends;
either way we may be false prophets, when we speak false doctrine, or
for wrong ends;
False teaching leads people into error, the
leading people to ascribe to ourselves leads others into a dead powerless religion.
A lot of times, they are together:"Men will rise up even from your own number and distort the truth to lure the disciples into following them.” ()
Perverse teaching and a perverse aims are seldom seperated;
like a bow that is warped can hardly shoot right.
OBSERVE also, the proficient these followers of Christ were in His school.
From
calling down fire on the heads of others,
arguing about who’s going to be the greatest in the kingdom and
not knowing what’s going on with Christ and the manner in which He was going to die.
"Now they know that everything you have given me is from you,” ()
How did they come to know this?
How did Peter know about Jesus? "Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” "Jesus responded, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but my Father in heaven.” ()
The saving knowledge of Christ’s person and offices cannot be achieved by any means other than special revelation from God!
We’re to see God as we see the sun, by His own beams and light!
It’s this inward light from God’s Spirit is what provided the means for
the apostle’s to convince the world of the truth of Christianity.
"We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey him.”” ()
If we are to profit in the school of Christ we need the power of His Spirit.
The watering jug will do nothing apart from the sun.
So to the word, w/out the witness of God’s Spirit is just another book! "So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.” ()
The Spirit of God confirms truth to us by way of testimony and argument.
TESTIMONY. "For there are three that testify: "the Spirit, the water, and the blood—and these three are in agreement.” ()
There a secret persuasion, especially as the Word is being spoken, read, heard, that
indicates itself with your thoughts, doubtless (your regenerate hearts says), this is the Word of God)! “The Lord opened her heart to respond to what Paul was saying.” ().
So we encourage others to seek out faithful teachers (like Christ) delivering the Word with authority and faithfulness to God and men.
Such as don’t seek their own things, fear no man’s face, and come with the powerful evidence and demonstration of the Spirit.
Paul preached in such a way that is says that “the testimony about Christ was confirmed in you” ().
