Gen 3:14-
14 And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: 15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. 16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee. 17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; 18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; 19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return. 20 And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living. 21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them. 22 And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: 23 Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. 24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
Introduction
Introduction
We see in this passage that Adam and eve had sinned by eating of the tree God has now come and is pronouncing Judgement upon Adam eve, and the serpent

The first Punishment
14 The Lord God said to the serpent,
“Because you have done this,
cursed are you above all livestock
and above all beasts of the field;
on your belly you shall go,
and dust you shall eat
all the days of your life.
15 I will put enmity between you and the woman,
and between your offspring and her offspring;
he shall bruise your head,
and you shall bruise his heel.”
A. The surpent be cursed
A few things worth noting in verse 14
We do not know exactly when satin and his angels fell from heaven but we know that it had not yet happened at the completion of creation because of what we see in
31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
If the devil and his angels had fallen at this point everything could not have been very good. Therefore, we know that some amount of time had passed between creation and this event.
2. We know that the serpent was a land animal because of Genisis 3:1
1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made.
He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?”
So due to what the serpent did God cursed it by making it to crawl on its belly and eat dust.
B. Forshodowing of Christ
15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
What we see here is that there will be enmity between Eve and the serpent
not only that the offspring of both would also take part in this. and the serpent shall burse the heal of man, but the head of the serpent would be bruised which would be a fatal blow.
not only that the offspring of both would also take part in this. and the serprent shall bruse the heal of man but the head of the serpent would be brused which would be a fatel blow.
a. offspring
the offspring of the serpent is not referring to physical offspring as there is no indication that the devil ever had physical offspring, but rather his spiritual decedents,
The seed of the woman is Jesus Christ himself who here is promised at some point in the future
The seed of the woman is Jesus christ himself who here is promised at some point in the future
This is not referring in any way to the virgin Merry
This is not refering in any way to the virgin Merry
In the Latin Vulgate there is a very problematic translation of this passage. where it changes the masculate pronoun to a feminine one. This has given to wrongful claims attributing this passage to the virgin Merry this interpretation is very problematic and has absolutely no basis on scripture.
b. The brused heal
the seed of the serpent would bruse the heal of the seed of the woman
on the cross satin brused the heal of Christ causing his death
satin put sin into the world therfore he caused the need for christ’s death but as we have looked at previously Christ freely gave up his life, satin, the religious leaders, the soldiers or anyone else did not take his life.
the term bruse shows the fact that his death was not final it was a bruse just as when you and I get a bruse it does not kill us we recover.
Christ died for us by being made sin for us
21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Christ took our punishment at the cross and by doing this his heal was brused but the damage done was not final he was wounded but he came back from the dead three days later.
c. The brused head
Jesus Christ being the seed of the woman would crush the head of the serpent indicating his final defeat that he can not recover from. as we saw with the bruse one can recover from a bruse but one canot recover from a crushed head. we see the crushed head in three different facets
At the cross
The divil was initially defeated at the cross
31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.
Satin brused the heal of christ at the cross but Christ sealed Satins fait by defeating the condomnation of sin
2. the second coming
When Christ returns for his church He will mind satin and place him in the pit
1 And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. 2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, 3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.
4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

3. The final defeat the lake of fire
One day Satin along with everyone who followed his decept and lies will be cast into the lake of fire
7 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, 8 And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. 9 And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. 10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
This will be the final crushing of the head of the devil it is the end of the story and there is nothing the devil can do about it so He desires to take as many as possible along with him.
The secound punishment
The secound punishment
17 And to Adam he said,
“Because you have listened to the voice of your wife
and have eaten of the tree
of which I commanded you,
‘You shall not eat of it,’
cursed is the ground because of you;
in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life;
18 thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you;
and you shall eat the plants of the field.
19 By the sweat of your face
you shall eat bread,
till you return to the ground,
for out of it you were taken;
for you are dust,
and to dust you shall return.”
16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
So we see her the punishment bestowed upon eve:
The pain of childbaring would be multiplied
notice it is an increase or multiplication of pain in childbirth not a beginning of pain in childbirth
pain still would have existed before the fall, but sin increased this pain.
2. “Your desire shall be contrary to your husband, but he shall rule over you.”
What is being said here is that she shall desire to control her husband but he shall rule over her.
men this is not an endorsement of the fact that we are the Lords of our wives and whatever we say goes.
but the biblical model is that the husband is the leader of the home, but with that leadership brings with it greater responsibility as we see in vs 17-19
III. The third punishment (V 17-19)
III. The third punishment (V 17-19)
Again remember greater responsibility brings with it greater accountability, earlier in the chapter we see that Adam tried to pin His sin not only on his wife but on God
12 The man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit of the tree, and I ate.” 13 Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this that you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
Adam’s sins
Adam’s sins
He listened to Eve
He ate of the tree
Adam’s consequenses
The ground was cursed
this shows serious effect upon the ground and it will now be nesesary to overcom many obsticals in order for human survival.
He would have to work the ground
Death would occur and he would return to dust.
God could have struck them both down imediatly, but he didn’t however the prosess of death started, as it does in each of us.
the moment we are born we start the proses of dieing due to sin
the consequencs for sin is lifling toil we live on a plannet that has ben cursed by sin and it only will continue to get wors.
12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
The final Punishment
20 And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living. 21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them. 22 And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: 23 Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. 24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
notice the statement like one of us-again proof for the trinity
-The punishment for all was that they were removed from the garden of eden and now had to work the ground.
if they had remained in the garden they would have had acsess to the tree of life which would have made them imortal and the punishment would not have mattered
in addition they did not have the comunion with God that they had before the fall
we never think sin will have consequenses, well it does.
Conclusiion
sin has consequences
