27 Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the gospel
Conduct In a Manner Worthy
conduct is the pattern of behaviour we demonstrate
there is a clear standard that every believer should conform to
it is the gospel of Christ
we have some amazing privileges
we are heirs of eternal life
we have been pardoned and released from sin and its penalty
Whatever Happens
there are no excuses for poor conduct
whatever happens - within church life, within family life, within personal life
in good times or bad, we must live a worthy life
we have the Holy Spirit in us and thus we are taught good conduct
Gospel of Christ
the gospel is the good news that jesus brought

we know and we are encouraged to stay true to Jesus
yet there are forces at work to destroy our work in Christ
we have our own flesh to contend with
there is the difficulties of working together as a team in full unity in Christ
then there is the assault of worldly philosophies and traditions
finally the devil himself is actively opposing us
The one Spirit
it is all Spirit inspired and Spirit initiated
we can do nothing eternal outside of the work of the holy Spirit
Paul is particularly talking about unity in the body - the church
let us come together in one mind and one spirit to honour our Lord Jesus
let us go out with one purpose to honour our Lord Jesus
