As I have shared with people that I was going to be preaching today I received a lot of positive responses.
I just want to thank you for your prayers and I want to thank you for your warm reception.
I also want to encourage you to share that same love I feel for Pastor Rich, P Cindy, and P Colin.
That encouragement goes farther than you could ever imagine.

title Traps and Distraction or “Squirrel” if you prefer.
Today my message is titled Traps and Distraction or “Squirrel” if you prefer.
Our scripture is found in and I will be referencing other verses/ stories to help us gain a clearer picture of God’s heart on distraction and the different ways it is used to subvert God’s plan for our lives.
But this will be the base that we jump from.

Before we read this passage I want us to know that today’s message does not come from a place of condemnation but is an exhortation It is God crying out to us from a place of love and concern.

That shines brighter and brighter until [it reaches its full strength and glory in] the perfect day.

Open your ears to my sayings.

Keep them in the center of your heart.

The book of proverbs is my favorite book because of the wisdom it contains, interestingly enough it is one that much of the world can get on board with because there are many themes in it that just seem to be common sense.

This scripture lays out the importance of focus in our daily lives This proverb packs into it may principles that are found throughout the Bible.

I picture this proverb like a can of soda that’s been shaken up when you open it, all the stories about distraction explode out of it.

Point
Point 1
There is a lot of language in here that speaks where we fix our eyes and how it directs our path, the things we are to turn away from our sight is incredibly important when it comes to walking the path that God has called us to.
Is it any surprise that our culture has moved in a direction where our gaze is constantly turned devices?
How many of you have seen this before (grab phone and watch it while walking) How many of you have secretly prayed that tthat person runs into a telephone pole (you don’t have to raise your hand) that More on this later.

While phones and technology have become huge distractions I do not want to solely focus on that.
Distractions can take many forms and we don’t have time to mention them all so I ask that you would right now begin to ask Holy Spirit to reveal to you what yours is if you don’t already know.

Point 2
In starting at vs 38 we see a story where Jesus comes to the home of Mary and Martha for dinner.
If you don’t know the story Mary placed herself at Jesus’ feet Martha got frustrated because Mary wasn’t helping her to make the meal.
She goes to Jesus to have him correct mary and gets corrected instead.

Vs 41 “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered and anxious about so many things; 42.
But only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which will not be taken from her.”

I identify with Martha who I think was the older sibling watching as little sister hangs out with the guests while she does all the work and says Jesus can you help me out?
Jesus corrects Martha and points out that the meal is not the important part of the evening it is the time they get to spend together.
We usually host Thanksgiving and I often find myself in Martha’s position, I run around the kitchen all day, because I love to cook.
But more often than not I spend more time with the food than my guests… How many of us find ourselves so busy that we lose sight of what we should really be doing?
