Be On the Alert
Satan seeks to devour lives.
He uses the the things that influence us to devour us.
What are allowing to influence you.
As I have observed my life and the lives of many other men there are three area’s that I find Satan uses to devour the lives of men
1. Worldly Success
Most men get their identity from what they do.
Their job is how they determine their own self worth.
Men will spend countless hours at work at the expense of quiet time with the Lord, much needed time with their family, and serving in the local church.
They pursue position, power, and wealth rather than the will of God for their life.
John warns against this.
Do not love the world nor the things in the world.
If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.
17 The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.
Tell story of climbing corporate latter running from God
2. The Applause of Men
Men can have self-confidence issues and seek to get their confidence from what other people think about them.
They typically find themselves exaggerating or outright lying about things that they have done.
They are trying to get people to think highly of them so they will feel good about themselves.
Tell Jerry Clower story about lying deacon.
Marcel.
3. Sensuality
Smart phones and laptops have created easy access to pornography.
Sensuality in movies is now common place.
One may say it’s not hurting any one to watch this.
This is a lie from Satan.
It will ruin your marriage, give you a wrong view of women, and poison your mind.
Jesus said.
We must make a covenant with our eyes and allow that which comes in them be holy.
Not only are we suppose to Be on the alert for ourselves but also our wives and children.
We have authority and responsibility to make sure that they are being influenced by Godly influences.
The word of God should be the most important influence in a man’s life
Stand Firm In the Faith
We must live what we believe.
We must do what our king calls us to do.
What is it that He calls us to do?
Matthew 28
Make Disciples
A disciple is a person that follows Jesus Christ and teaches others to follow Jesus and make other disciples.
1. Baptize them
In order for a person to be baptized they must be saved.
An active disciple maker leads others to salvation in the Lord.
Who was the last person you led to the Lord?
2. Teaching them to obey
In order to effectively teach someone to obey you must demonstrate it.
This takes time and relationship.
It is not enough to impart knowledge of how to obey, it must be demonstrated.
Act Like Men
Real men finish their life well.
They don’t give up when tough times come.
They give all that God gives them.
Their goals are always bigger than themselves.
Tell story of John Steven Aquari.
My country did not send me 3000 miles to start a race.
My country sent me 3000 miles to finish a race.
Are you running the race God has for you?
He
Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Be Strong!
Our idea of strong is rooted in being able to handle life’s issues in our own strength.
If we can do it by ourselves then we should.
This breeds an attitude of pride.
True strength comes form the Lord.
‘Do not fear, for I am with you;
Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you, surely I will help you,
Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’
True strength comes from the Lord.
Our strength is limited to our abilities.
God’s strength is based on His being!
9 And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.”
Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.10 Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.
for power is perfected in weakness.
Our weakness affords opportunity for Christs strength.
God is able to use us when we understand our weaknesses and lean into Christ to be our strength.
Do Everything in Love
1. Love God
And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.”
2. Love your Family
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her
Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
3. Love Others
35 By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
