JESUS THE ONE AND ONLY FOCUS OF OUR FAITH

THE FOUNDATION OF OUR FAITH
Matthew 16:13–18 NASB95
Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, He was asking His disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” And they said, “Some say John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; but still others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” And Jesus said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. “I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.
JESUS THE FOUNDER OF THE FAITH:
WILL LEAD YOU TO A COUNTER-CULTURE LIFESTYLE. (v. 13)
John 17:11 NASB95
“I am no longer in the world; and yet they themselves are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep them in Your name, the name which You have given Me, that they may be one even as We are.
John 17:14–15 NASB95
“I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. “I do not ask You to take them out of the world, but to keep them from the evil one.
Growing up in a Christianized culture that has become pagan, we cannot conceive of combining sexual behavior with worship. Understand that when you hear of Temple Prostitutes in the Old Testament that they would be church staff there. Talk about how to pack a pew.
But that would be what had been going on.
John 17:
Sex has a powerful pull on us biologically, psychologically and spiritually.
We live in a pagan age where the only absolute truth gets boiled down to “live as you please” and fulfill every desire.
If such people talk about Jesus. They want the Bobble head Jesus who simply nods and winks at them. Do as you please and believe as you please.
We see that introduced in much of American culture. We have sexuality and abortion becoming enshrined in the Secular Left. They held a ceremony in NYC drenched in red lighting as they enshrined infanticide or Late Term Abortion.
Understand to value life from conception because you believe the Lord makes all people in His image will put you on a counter cultural. And the Left will not leave you alone.
If you believe marriage and gender come as gifts designed by God, you will be in the cross hairs of the cultural elite, media, and Government coercion. While we can love people with problems and people who sin. Hey, you love me. I love you. We recognize that we have a hospital for sinners here and no one obeys God perfectly. The culture says there is no sin EXCEPT to believe in sin. Everyone is fine except for you Christians who say, “Houston, we have a problem.” And we all need to be accepting, but we need to get rid of Christians.
See as long as you ride the fence. its all good.
You can talk about Jesus as long as you think He’s just a man or at worst, one God among many.
And if you do, you can have freedom of worship in your little church box and they might leave you alone. But if you proclaim Jesus above other gods. If Jesus just doesn’t go along for the Ride, but He wants to be in the DRIVERS SEAT, then people will have a problem with you!
2. WILL CALL YOU TO TAKE A COURAGEOUS STAND. (V. 14-16)
A. NOTE WHERE THEY ARE NOT:
i. A Sunday School classroom or small group.
ii. A Church building.
iii. A Christian school.
B. THEY WERE IN THE CENTER OF PAGAN WORSHIP. (The Gates of Hades)
:32-
Matthew 10:32–34 NASB95
“Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven. “But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven. “Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.
This week a ROTC student stopped the North Carolina shooter.
Murdered UNC Charlotte student Riley Howell's family and longtime girlfriend said they are "beyond proud" of his sacrifice.
But they are grappling with how to go on without him.
Riley Howell, 21, was one of the two students killed in a campus shooting Tuesday at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte that also left four other students wounded.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Kerr Putney hailed the environmental studies major as the "first and foremost hero" of the shooting, saying he "took the fight" to the alleged gunman and got him "off of his feet." That gave the police crucial time to close in on the suspected shooter, police said.
"We are just beyond proud of what he was able to do," Natalie Henry-Howell, Riley Howell's mother, told "Today." "While kids were running one way, our son turned and ran towards the shooter."
"If he was in the room when something like that was happening, and he had turned away, he wouldn't have been able to live with himself," his mom added.
Your faith is not a private matter. It is a public window through which God wants to reveal Jesus to others. That is our primary call on earth, no matter what other tasks God has given us to accomplish. We are not our own. We too are men sent from God.
You will be called to action in a world of violence and hate.
Matthew 11:12 NASB95
“From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and violent men take it by force.
John 3
Matthew 11:12–13 NASB95
“From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and violent men take it by force. “For all the prophets and the Law prophesied until John.
Matthew 11:11–14 NASB95
“Truly I say to you, among those born of women there has not arisen anyone greater than John the Baptist! Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. “From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and violent men take it by force. “For all the prophets and the Law prophesied until John. “And if you are willing to accept it, John himself is Elijah who was to come.
Matthew 11:
John the Baptist took a courageous stand for Jesus, His nature and His morality.
Abbey Johnson took a stand for the sanctity of God given life in publishing Unplanned.
Chuck Konzelman, director of the Pure Flix movie “Unplanned,” revealed to Congress this week that nearly 100 abortion clinic workers have sought to leave their jobs after seeing the pro-life film.
During his testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on the Constitution, Konzelman said 94 clinic workers have approached former Planned Parenthood executive Abby Johnson’s nonprofit, And Then There Were None, according to Pure Flix Insider.
‘Unplanned’ Movie Director Says Film Was Made ‘For Such a Time as This’
“One percent of the abortion workers in the United States, after getting one look at them being portrayed on film,” he said, “have decided to change their lives … and what they do for a living.”
The Pure Flix filmmaker was on Capitol Hill to speak on a panel regarding Twitter’s alleged censorship of “Unplanned.” On its opening weekend in late March, the social media platform temporarily suspended the film’s promotional account.
But if no one spoke out who would have the chance to repent? Who would know the name of Jesus.
3. A FAITHFUL COMMITMENT TO THE CHURCH! (V. 18)
Courageous faith
“The characteristic place to find a Christian is among his very enemies.” ― William Stringfellow, A Private and Public Faith
We have generations that retreated from the public sphere. Yes, they have made headway and destroyed our institutions. But they destroy themselves…
Questions to examine:
1. Where have I been silent and God wants me to speak out?
2. Where can I show courage for Christ?
3. If someone were to examine my participation in church monthly and yearly, would I appear to be a Christian of conviction or simply one of convenience?
