Which Path are you on?
Which Path are you on?
I ask this because I fear some of you may be fooling yourselves.
It is very easy to think we are on the right path when we aren’t.
We are arrogant!
We are deceitful!
We are utterly sinners!
The Two Gates
There are two gates mentioned here Narrow and Wide gates
The Narrow gate
has a narrow path leading to it
has a hard path leading to it
Leads to life
Few find it
The Wide Gate
has a wide path leading to it
the path is easy
leads to destruction
many are on this path
Application
There are three types of people in this world.
Christians
These are on the narrow path
There life is hard
we must deny ourselves put others and God first
we will be made fun of
we will be persecuted to varying degrees
we will stumble and fall
the burden will be heavy at times.
But life everlasting is the prize at the end
Almost- Christians
These are on the wide path but think they are on the narrow
Life is Easy but may have false hardships.
Think of it this way have you ever been walking along a cliff or hill and you feel like you are going to fall in or down.
These are the people who are looking over from the edge of the wide path down at the narrow path daydreaming that they are on the narrow path.
So This would be a good time to explain how these to paths work
You see if you have been in church any length of time you have heard this and the narrative we get in our mind is that these two paths have ways between them little paths back and forth so that you can get from one to the other. The truth is there is no connecting path. these paths don’t cross never get near enough to jump over. There is nothing one can do to get over there.
We must seek it and God places us on the narrow path and reveals the narrow gate to us.
These Almost Christians ultimately serve themselves, these are those who come to church on Sunday and walk out the door and deny Him by their lifestyle.
They are still on the wide path leading to destruction
Unbelievers
These are on the wide road
they are either oblivious or out right deny God
They walk the easy road of fulfilling selfish desires
They are headed directly to the wide gate and destruction
I don’t want you in this room to be deceived, I want the hard life for you because it is the most rewarding.
1 John 1:5-9
English Standard Version Chapter 1
5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
