Real disciples

Everyone sins

we sin because we are slaves to sin

we *have* to sin because it is our master

Slaves in two ways

1. Makes us want something more than Jesus

2. Damns you to Hell

4 freedoms

1. Desire

2. Ability

3. Opportunity

4. No Regrets

There are disciples who are not TRUE disciples

The world is actually in 3 groups: non-disciples, fake diciples, real disciples

Continue in His Word

Reading, Praying, church, following his commandments

Know the truth

This is the gospel, the Bible

Are free from sin

No longer a slave

Slave to what? Sin

How are we slaves to sin?

Fear of death-

Death-

Passions of your mind

Desires

limited freedom— “REALLY free” is opposed to sins partial or fake freedom

Desire: “I want to do it”

Ability: “I can do it”

Opportunity: “I’m allowed to do it”

No Regrets: “I won’t regret doing it”

What do I need to be free from?

In life we are slaves to sin

Jesus says that if you sin, then you are a slave to it now.

You are no longer free

“You mean I am enslaved right now? It doesn’t feel like it. It feels like I can do whatever I want.”

What does it mean to be free?

Desire: “I want to do it”

Ability: “I can do it”

Opportunity: “I’m allowed to do it”

No Regrets: “I won’t regret doing it”

You might not have the ability to do the right thing

You literally just don’t know how to live the right way

So many rules, so many people saying different things, and you’re not sure

You might not have the opportunity to do right things

Maybe you have been taught the wrong thing or you were brought up in a religion that believed the wrong thing

You might have a desire for the wrong things

you feel the pull to do or say wrong things

You realize that you actually enjoy doing the thing that you know is wrong

Everyone fails the last category: you will have regrets

See, even if you managed to make it down the list and say that you are free and not a slave to anything: this one gets you

All have sinned and messed up and don’t meet God’s expectations. Everyone fails to be good enough to get into heaven.

The consequence for failing to do that is to die- full of regrets. The punishment for that is to go to Hell away from God

The Freedom of Skydiving

You want to have the freedom to sky dive...

You plan a trip to go skydiving but suddenly, you start having a panic attack- scared out of your mind- you are paralyzed with fear.

Are you free without your desire? No.

Or, let’s say that you have your desire but then you crash your car on the way and there and you flip it over into a ditch, breaking your legs and arms.

Are you free to go without the ability to do it? No.

Say you make it to the airport just fine, all your bones fine, your panic attack didn’t hit, but you realize that you are late and the last flight just took off.

Are you free to go skydiving without the opportunity? No.

But, this last one is where most people are. They get on the plane, with their bones and their sanity and they jump. They are having an adrenaline fueled rush and its going great! Except, their parachute doesn’t work.

Here they are, doing exactly what they want to do, rushing toward their death.

Is that freedom? having a wonderful experience that gets you killed and leaves you filled with regrets?

No. It isn’t. They are just slaves heading toward death

Go, Live Free

If you aren’t a Christian that is you: either you can’t get up in the air to taste freedom or what you are tasting will kill you

If you are a Christian then you should never feel jealous of the people around you flinging themselves off of buildings into Free-falls that end in their destructions

Sex-frenzied free falls

Drinking free falls

Relationship free fall

Impressing people, showing off, faking it, putting that boyfriend or girlfriend above everyone and everything else

gossiping, lying, bullying

Drinking free falls

Free fall making bad decisions just to fit in

Gossiping free falls

Free fall to wasting their lives on the newest social media app or game

plummeting downward in addictions

When we believe the truth that Jesus came down from heaven, died on the cross for our sins and came back to life- we are believing that we are free from sin!

Now, we will live a life where we are free to follow Him, free to continue in His Word
