1 Samuel 2:1–10 NKJV
1 And Hannah prayed and said: “My heart rejoices in the Lord; My horn is exalted in the Lord. I smile at my enemies, Because I rejoice in Your salvation. 2 “No one is holy like the Lord, For there is none besides You, Nor is there any rock like our God. 3 “Talk no more so very proudly; Let no arrogance come from your mouth, For the Lord is the God of knowledge; And by Him actions are weighed. 4 “The bows of the mighty men are broken, And those who stumbled are girded with strength. 5 Those who were full have hired themselves out for bread, And the hungry have ceased to hunger. Even the barren has borne seven, And she who has many children has become feeble. 6 “The Lord kills and makes alive; He brings down to the grave and brings up. 7 The Lord makes poor and makes rich; He brings low and lifts up. 8 He raises the poor from the dust And lifts the beggar from the ash heap, To set them among princes And make them inherit the throne of glory. “For the pillars of the earth are the Lord’s, And He has set the world upon them. 9 He will guard the feet of His saints, But the wicked shall be silent in darkness. “For by strength no man shall prevail. 10 The adversaries of the Lord shall be broken in pieces; From heaven He will thunder against them. The Lord will judge the ends of the earth. “He will give strength to His king, And exalt the horn of His anointed.”
Have you ever been mistreated or misunderstood? Have you been the person that others take pleasure in making you feel bad? What did you do about it? Did you disregard God’s Word and sought to exact vengeance on your adversary rather let God? Or, did you misuse Scripture and say in your heart “an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth?”
What do u do when the adversary is using people to attack you?Remember
Turn to the next slide Ephesians
Ephesians 6:12 KJV 1900
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
We don’t fight people. We fight the Enemy
Should we remember God’s instructions that “Vengeance is Mine, said the Lord, and He will repay!”
Should we remember that Bod’s Word that “many are the afflictions of the righteous but the LORD will deliver them from them all.”
Should we follow God’s instructions to “casted all your cares on the Lord because He cares for you.”
Remember, Hannah who was hassled daily. She endured a heckler day other day.
Read (1 Sam. 1:6-7) Stop at “she provoked her”
1 Samuel 1:6–7 KJV 1900
6 And her adversary also provoked her sore, for to make her fret, because the Lord had shut up her womb. 7 And as he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of the Lord, so she provoked her; therefore she wept, and did not eat.
The riding and taunting caused her to be sore, grieved, and frustrated.
Read the end of verse 7
1 Samuel 1:7 KJV 1900
7 And as he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of the Lord, so she provoked her; therefore she wept, and did not eat.

In a state of grief, she became ABASED before the LORD

In a state of grief, she made an APPEAL to the LORD

In a state of grief, she made an ASSERTION before the LORD

Title: From Weeping to Worship

I: When I saw the Sacredness of God

1 Samuel 2:2 KJV 1900
2 There is none holy as the Lord: For there is none beside thee: Neither is there any rock like our God.
EXP: Hannah prayed that no one is holy like the LORD. God is so far from us. He deserves our worship
Psalm 99:9 KJV 1900
9 Exalt the Lord our God, And worship at his holy hill; For the Lord our God is holy.

II: When I saw the Shrewdness of God

1 Samuel 2:3–5 KJV 1900
3 Talk no more so exceeding proudly; Let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: For the Lord is a God of knowledge, And by him actions are weighed. 4 The bows of the mighty men are broken, And they that stumbled are girded with strength. 5 They that were full have hired out themselves for bread; And they that were hungry ceased: So that the barren hath born seven; And she that hath many children is waxed feeble.
Exp:
Psalm 104:24 KJV 1900
24 O Lord, how manifold are thy works! In wisdom hast thou made them all: The earth is full of thy riches.
Romans 11:33 KJV 1900
33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!

III: When I saw the Sovereignty of God

1 Samuel 2:6–7 KJV 1900
6 The Lord killeth, and maketh alive: He bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth up. 7 The Lord maketh poor, and maketh rich: He bringeth low, and lifteth up.
EXP: Hannah recognized the Sovereignty of God. She found herself in a situation with a loving husband but she was barren. She had a wealth but she was being ridiculed. Yes, she relied on the Lord. Yes, she desired a child. Yes, her husband had 2 wives. Yes, she wept and sobbed. Hannah prayed (look at verse 6-7)
Job 9:12 KJV 1900
12 Behold, he taketh away, who can hinder him? Who will say unto him, What doest thou?

IV. When I saw the Softheartedness of God

1 Samuel 2:8–10 KJV 1900
8 He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, And lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, To set them among princes, And to make them inherit the throne of glory: For the pillars of the earth are the Lord’s, And he hath set the world upon them. 9 He will keep the feet of his saints, And the wicked shall be silent in darkness; For by strength shall no man prevail. 10 The adversaries of the Lord shall be broken to pieces; Out of heaven shall he thunder upon them: The Lord shall judge the ends of the earth; And he shall give strength unto his king, And exalt the horn of his anointed.
EXP: She was
Belittled because she had no baby
Cutdown because she had no child
Scoff at because she had no son
(verse 8-9)
With the removal of her reproach, it proved that the LORD is Softhearted or Merciful
With the removal of the mocking from the other wife, it proved that the Lord is Softhearted or Compassionate.
With the removal of the stigma of being barren, it proved to Hannah that the Lord is just who He says He is.
Deuteronomy 4:31 KJV 1900
31 (For the Lord thy God is a merciful God;) he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them.
Hannah was being tested to see if her yearly trip to the temple was just a ritual or was it real worship.
1 Samuel 2:1 KJV 1900
1 And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the Lord, Mine horn is exalted in the Lord: My mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; Because I rejoice in thy salvation.
Psalm 30:5 KJV 1900
5 For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.
God is the source of her joy!
She didn’t rejoice in the prize. She rejoiced in the LORD.
She didn’t rejoice in the product. She rejoiced in the LORD.
She didn’t rejoice in the answered prayer. She rejoiced in His Person.
Just like Hannah you and I may have counseled other that He is a Softhearted (Merciful) God
Just like her, you and I may have quoted Scripture that God is a Sovereign
Just like Hannah, you and I may have told other we are relying on the only Shrewd (Wise) God
Just like her you and I may have testified that God is is a Sacred (Holy).
But what happened when your life got turned upside down
What happened when your body turned on you?
What did you do when your family turned on you?
What did you do when you had trouble on every side?
What happened when you were perplexed?
What did you do when you were persecuted?
What happened when you got cast down and God seemed far away?
Hannah humbled herself- She said I can’t but the LORD can
She called on the LORD in prayer
She made a vow to the Lord
With her words “if You will” she recognized that it is based on the Mercy and Will of God
With her promise she recognized that everything belongs to the LORD anyway.
Romans 8:28 KJV 1900
28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
