John’s speaking tools:
1) Offers improvement to the audience not “for them” but as if it was for him.
He lists his issues, knowing that they are the issues many, if not all, of us have.
He does not point it out as the audience’s issue, but takes ownership of it as if it were only his problem.
2) Everything is tied in with a story that can be easily remembered or understood by the “common man”.
He makes it personal.
If we recall, this is what Christ did with parables.

1) Slow to speak.
2) Quick to listen.
3) Slow to anger.
- Remove all “anger and wrath”....translation could look more like: remove all “intense desire (strongs 2372) to punish (strongs 3709)”.
Pastor John said “filth” in root translation meant “an abundance of earwax”.
However, I cannot see that within a quick look in my interlinear.
-Good communication leads people to action.
-Great sermons are made with parables/analogies/stories.
Without them, no sermon is great.

Pastor John’s Nine Suggestions for Being a Better Communicator:
1) Make time for meaningful communication.
2) Make eye contact when you are speaking.
3) Listen like an animal being stalked.
4) Know the one with whom you are communicating.
5) Ask clarifying questions.
6) Avoid problem solving unless directly requested.
7) Avoid using universal statements.
8) Avoid destructive criticism, but instead be a part of the positive solution.
9) If you find yourself getting angry, hit the pause button.
