Proverbs 31:28 ESV
28 Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:
Proverbs 31:

Bless Mothers…For Making Homes

She Makes a Home

Titus 2:4–5 NKJV
4 that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.
It may take a craftsman’s skill to build a house, but it takes a special touch to make a home. That touch usually comes from the mother’s hand.
Making a home is no light affair. It takes dedication, time, and sacrifice.
Making a home is no light affair. It takes dedication, time, and sacrifice.
A mother makes the home a place of provision
Proverbs 31:13 ESV
13 She seeks wool and flax, and works with willing hands.
Proverbs 31:15 ESV
15 She rises while it is yet night and provides food for her household and portions for her maidens.
Proverbs 31:21 ESV
21 She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household are clothed in scarlet.
Pro 31:
Proverbs 31:27 ESV
27 She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.
A mother is the first to begin providing for her child. Even her body is designed by God to provide for the welfare of her children.
A Mother’s provision goes far beyond the simple necessities.
A Mother manages a home so that it is a place of safety, comfort, warmth, and love.
A Mother manages a home so that it is a place of safety, comfort, warmth, and love.
1 Timothy 5:14 ESV
14 So I would have younger widows marry, bear children, manage their households, and give the adversary no occasion for slander.
A Mother manages a home so that it is a place of safety, comfort, warmth, and love.
Men may be the head of the family, but they should respect an honor their wives as managers of the home. The home is her domain, and her work in the home is invaluable.

Bless Mothers…For their Comfort

Isaiah 66:13 ESV
13 As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you; you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.
Mothers have a God-given ability to provide comfort and soothing care to their children. While the means of comforting change over the years, the results do not.
Few people have the ability to comfort and sooth our souls like our mothers.
In this way, mothers teach us of God, who is the God of all comfort, and comforts us in all our afflictions ()

Bless Mothers…For their Teaching

Proverbs 31:26 ESV
26 She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.
Along with fathers, mothers play an instrumental role in teaching children.
Mothers will usually be the very first teachers. Her voice will be the first a child recognizes, and the first a child learns from.
Few counselors or mentors in life will ever compare to our godly mothers.
Proverbs 1:8 ESV
8 Hear, my son, your father’s instruction, and forsake not your mother’s teaching,
Proverbs 30:17 ESV
17 The eye that mocks a father and scorns to obey a mother will be picked out by the ravens of the valley and eaten by the vultures.
God desires mothers to teach, and God commands that we listen and learn.
Proverbs 31:1 ESV
1 The words of King Lemuel. An oracle that his mother taught him:
Solomon had wisdom to ask for more wisdom. Where had he learned such wisdom? Surely some was from David. But could it also be he learned such from his mother?
For all the wise words Solomon uttered, his mother’s words still found their way into Holy Scriptures for their great wisdom.
2 Timothy 3:14–15 ESV
14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it 15 and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
Mother’s teach much more than ABC’s, tying shoes, and tidiness. Mothers can and should play a crucial role in the spiritual training of their children.
While father’s are commanded to “train up children,” mothers play an integral role in this. Some mothers have even done this on their own, like Timothy’s mother.
Mothers – never underestimate the impact you can have for the spiritual welfare of your child, and even the spiritual welfare of the future church!

Bless Mothers…For their Example

Proverbs 31
13 She...works with willing hands.
17 She dresses herself with strength and makes her arms strong.
20 She opens her hand to the poor and reaches out her hands to the needy.
27 She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.
While mothers teach important lessons, perhaps their greatest lessons are conveyed through their examples.
These may all be things the mother simply does, but they become lessons for her children. They learn to work hard, and they learn to be generous and caring.
Father’s may work very hard to provide a living for their families, but many times children can’t see that labor. At home, however, they can witness the great effort and work their mother puts in to making a home for them.
2 Timothy 1:5 ESV
5 I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well.
No responsibility is greater than a mother’s need to be a godly example for her children.
Even before children can understand the deep truths of God’s Word, they can see such truths enacted through their parent’s lives.
Mothers – you play a great role in exemplifying righteousness to your children. You exemplify the type of woman your daughter’s should be, and the type of woman your sons should seek out as wives.

Bless Mothers…For their Prayers

James 5:16 ESV
16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
Of all the people that people that pray for you, surely few if any pray so fervently as your mother.
We have no clue how many petitions have been made on our behalf; how many supplications lifted up for our welfare. We have no idea how many blessings we’ve encountered and pains we’ve been spared because of a godly mother’s prayer.
1 Samuel 1:10–11 ESV
10 She was deeply distressed and prayed to the Lord and wept bitterly. 11 And she vowed a vow and said, “O Lord of hosts, if you will indeed look on the affliction of your servant and remember me and not forget your servant, but will give to your servant a son, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall touch his head.”
Hannah prayed for a child, but further she prayed for a child she could give back to the Lord.
Samuel would become a great leader in Israel’s history. He would help deliver Israel from the Philistines. He would anoint the first kings of Israel, and he would usher in the era of the prophets.
•God saw fit to work His plan out in accordance to this godly woman’s prayers •
Some of the strongest and greatest pray-ers are surely godly mothers. God only knows the great impact the private and silent prayers of such women have had on this world. God only knows how many blessings have been showered down as an answer to such prayers
Thank God for godly mothers and their prayers!

Bless Mothers…For their Love

Moses’ Mother: She defied Pharaoh’s law, and refused to kill her son. She protected him, and found a way to save him. She and her husband took great personal risk, but for a loving mother and father, such a risk doesn’t require a second thought.
One greater than Moses would rise, and His mother would also love Him. She, however, would not be able to save her Son. She would have to watch Him die. Even still, she was there.
John 19:25 ESV
25 but standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.
John 19:25–26 ESV
25 but standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son!”
When Jesus was just a baby, old Simeon had prophesied that a sword would pierce through Mary’s soul – and surely it did the day she watched her son be crucified.
When Jesus was just a baby, old Simeon had prophesied that a sword would pierce through Mary’s soul – and surely it did the day she watched her son be crucified.
Jesus’ disciples had deserted him, and perhaps only John had slunk back to now be near the cross. But His mother was there. Heartbroken and crushed, Mary wouldn’t abandon her Son. Had the romans come with hammers and nails for her, surely she would have stayed close to her son. No amount of danger and no amount of pain could pull her away, for she was a godly woman, and she was a mother!
John 19:26 ESV
26 When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son!”
The last earthly thing Jesus took care of before tasting death for our sins, was to take care of His mother. With His blood poured out and His life ebbing away, He took one more breath and ensured his mother would be taken care of.
What does this tell us when the very Son of God places such a high regard on loving, honoring, and providing for His mother?

Thank God for Godly Mothers!

Proverbs 31:29–30 ESV
29 “Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.” 30 Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
Society and culture praises the woman who casts off the yoke of motherhood and makes her own way. God still praises the woman who abides by His Word, and faithfully fulfills one of the greatest responsibilities in God’s creation – the role of a mother.
The world may not truly appreciate motherhood. All the more reason for us to be thankful for those who are true, godly mothers. Let us be eternally grateful for the blessing of godly mothers. Let us learn from their wisdom, their teaching, and their examples. Let us return their prayers for us with prayers of thanksgiving for them. Let us praise our godly mothers. Let us rise up and call them blessed.
