A Godly Woman Listens to the Lord

An angel of the Lord appeared to Samson’s mother. He told her that she was barren but was going to become pregnant and give birth to a son that would deliver the Israelites from the hand of the Philistines. Israel had been captive by the Philistines for 40 years. This was great news in many ways. She would experience a miracle in her own life. She would be called to a life of obedience. Her son would be holy in the sight of God. Her son would deliver her and her people.

She would experience a miracle in her own life.

In this time, a woman that was barren was not very well received by people. The value of a wife was based on her ability to have children. More specifically to have sons. This was important to carry on the family name. A woman that was barren was often looked at as useless. They probably felt like failures.

22 Then God remembered Rachel, and God gave heed to her and opened her womb. 23 So she conceived and bore a son and said, “God has taken away my reproach.” 24 She named him Joseph, saying, “May the Lord[a]give me another son.”

Women that cannot have children are remembered by God. He not only remembers them, but can also open their womb to have children. Even if God does not open the womb of a woman, she can still be a mother. There are many children in orphanages that need a good mother.

Motherhood does not depend on your ability to have children, but instead for God’s calling on your life to be a mother.

She would be called to life of obedience.

The angel of the Lord , instructed her not to drink alcohol, eat anything unclean,or put a razor to his head. The angel of the Lord was telling her what she must do to make sure she raised her son in a Godly manner. Two of the commandments make sense from a practical standpoint. Drinking alcohol during pregnancy has significant repercussion on the child. Eating unclean animals during this day exposed them to bacteria that could harm the child. The razor not being put to his head is a spiritual responsibility she had to Samson. A mother has both a physical and spiritual responsibility to their children.

A mother naturally has a physical responsibility to their child. This is obvious when you see the mamma bear come out to protect their kids. Their is something inside a woman that you don’t cross when it comes to their children. They will come out with vengeance! They will sacrifice themselves for the sake of their children.

A mother also has a spiritual responsibility to her children. She is to fulfill her calling as a Godly wife. She is to instruct her children in the ways of God through Godly living. She is to teach her children the word of God.

Her Son Would Be Holy In the Sight of God.

God told Samson’s mom that he would be a Nazirite. This means that He would be separated for the purposes of God!

nazirite n. — a special class of people who have taken of vow of separation to the God of Israel involving specific behaviors.

God had a special purpose for Samson that was revealed to his mother. He would deliver the nation of Israel from the Philistine captivity. This is not something that Samson would do by himself, but through the walking with God and experiencing the power of God through his calling.

Every child is special in the eyes of God. He has created them for an intended purpose. It is a mom’s responsibility to help their child discover their purpose. It is not a mom’s responsibility to determine their child’s child’s purpose but to discover it. There is a big difference. This is perhaps the hardest thing to do as a parent or mom. That is to let go and let them discover God’s purpose for their life.

Her son would deliver Israel from captivity.

God told her that Samson would deliver the nation of Israel through her son. She had high expectations from her son. She would raise him with a standard of living that matched her expectations.

Mom’s expect greatness from your children and set standards in their life that will help them achieve the greatness that God desires for them. We can not set mediocre standards of for our kids. We must set standards that facilitate excellence.

A Godly Mother Communicates With Her Husband

Samson’s mother immediately went and told her husband what the angel of the Lord had told her. She knew that God was about to give their family a tremendous blessing. She knew that she could be instrumental in helping her husband seek the Lord. This is exactly what happened. Guys, we would be wise to listen to our wived when it comes to spiritual issues.

A Godly mother has a profound impact on their husband. When they communicate what the Lord is doing in their lives, their husbands will join them in What God is doing in their life. God knew that it would take a husband and a wife to raise Samson to accomplish what God had in store for them. This is how God designed it.

Now I know that their are single mothers here this morning that may feel guilty because they don’t have a husband to help. I want to encourage you and let you know that you can be the best mother you can and still raise your child in the best possible way. I understand that there are circumstances that are better for a child that the father is not around. Instances like abuse, drug addiction, or alcoholism are not conducive to raising a child in. You are put in a situation where you must raise your child on your own. I want to be sensitive to these mother’s and encourage them that God will provide you what you need!

Communication is a necessity in raising kids.

Samson’s mom helped her husband understand God’s purpose for their family. Manoah thought they were going to die because they saw the Lord. His wife had to talk sense to him. She reminded him that the Lord would not have accepted the sacrifice or shown them all the things that were going to happen. A Godly woman helps her husband, when he needs help. In this instance, Manoah had a wrong idea about what was going to happen. His wife corrected him and put him in a right state.

Ladies, We need your council! When we are confused, please help us. Stay close to the Lord and allow him to use you to help us in raising our children.

A Godly Woman Lives Obediently to the Lord!

Samson’s mother was told exactly what she needed to do in order to raise the next leader of Israel. She had a choice. She could have disobeyed the Lord or obey the Lord. She chose to obey. How do we know! Verse 24 says the Lord blessed him. What is the blessing? A Godly mother! A mother has more influence in a child’s life than any other person.

The greatest gift a mother can give her child is obedience to the Lord. Here are a few indicators that a woman is obedient to the Lord

She opens her mouth in wisdom, And the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. 27 She looks well to the ways of her household, And does not eat the bread of idleness. 28 Her children rise up and bless her; Her husband also, and he praises her, saying: 29 “Many daughters have done nobly, But you excel them all.” 30 Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, But a woman who [s]fears the Lord, she shall be praised. 31 Give her the [t]product of her hands, And let her works praise her in the gates.

An Obedient Mother Speaks Words of Wisdom & Kindness

An obedient woman studies the scriptures and knows not only how to live by them but also share them with others. She speaks not only from a doctrinal standpoint, but an experiential standpoint. She can use her experience living in God’s Word to share with others.

An Obedient Mother Watches after her household

An obedient woman makes sure that everything is in order in her household. She cares for the children and her husband. She does not sit on the couch and watch TV all day. She takes care of the affairs of her household.

An Obedient Mother is called blessed by her children

Her children respect her and recognize all the things she does for them. They realize that they could not make it without mom’s help. They are grateful for all the things she does.

An Obedient Woman is praised by her husband

Behind every good man is a good woman. An obedient woman supports her husband and helps him. The husband recognizes that the real hero of the family is the mother. She takes care of a lot of stuff while the husband is working.

An Obedient Woman Fears the Lord

An obedient woman knows her God and lives to serve Him and live in accordance to His Word.

An Obedient Mother is praised by all people

A Godly mother is one who cares for many others besides her family. She provides help to those who need it. She is recognized as a blessing to many
