Parable of the Lost Sheep
Parable of the Lost Sheep
What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? 5 And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing. 6 And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost. 7 I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.
Why does Jesus seek the Lost Sheep?
He loves the Lost Sheep
He wants the Sheep to be safe and protected (He Cares)
What if I found a little boy or girl playing on HWY 491
I would risk my life to rescue the child
There are probably some that wouldn’t care at all
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. 11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. 12 But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep. 13 The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep. 14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.
Parable of the Lost Coin
Parable of the Lost Coin
Parable of the Lost Sheep
Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it? 9 And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost. 10 Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.
What does both of these parables teach us about God’s love for individuals?
Jesus loves the World, but Jesus loves You!
Philip P. Bliss wrote:
I am so glad that our Father in Heav’n
Tells of His love in the Book He has giv’n;
Wonderful things in the Bible I see,
This is the dearest, that Jesus loves me.
Refrain:
I am so glad that Jesus loves me,
Jesus loves me, Jesus loves me;
I am so glad that Jesus loves me,
Jesus loves even me.
Parable of the Lost Son
Parable of the Lost Son
And he said, A certain man had two sons: 12 And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living. 13 And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living. 14 And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want. 15 And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. 16 And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him. 17 And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! 18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, 19 And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. 20 And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. 21 And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son. 22 But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: 23 And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry: 24 For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.
What are some ways we can see the Love of the Father?
His Generosity v.12 ()
His Anticipation v.20
His Response to His Son’s Return
Ran to meet him
Do you think he might have smelled?
Fell on his neck (Embraced)
Kissed him

His Quickness to Forgive v.21
For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.
For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
For the most part people are not seeking God, they are doing what Adam did in Gensis 3 after the fall.
And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
So much of religion today is not seeking God, but seeking righteous apart from God
For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
Thank God Jesus is still seeking and finding sinners Today!

2. Jesus saves the Lost
2. Jesus saves the Lost
I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.
But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house.

1. Jesus is the head of the Church
1. Jesus is the head of the Church
And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,
For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
We are to do what He says not what we want.
Seeker-Sensitive Movement - Church Growth through a Business Strategy
Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. 42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.
And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, 47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.
The Goal should be to please Jesus not to become a giant organization
Jesus is the Head.

Whenever we study Scripture we need to ask ourselves some important questions to get a better understanding of the context.
Who is the original audience.
We need to ask ourselves who was this written to?
And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; 15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. 16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. 17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: 18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. 19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. 20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
The Laodicean Church represents the modern-contemporary Church of Today. It speaks of the condition the church will be in at the time of the Rapture.
Sleeping
Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.
The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
Apathy
absence or suppression of passion, emotion, or excitement.
lack of interest in or concern for things that others find moving or exciting.
Let’s not let the things of the world become more important or exciting to us than the things of God!
